Much has been made of Petty's disaopearing shot, but last game, he couldn't even dribble. For two games now, he hasn't been able to pass the ball to someone on his team. Purely conjecture, does he have a chemical dependency problem?

He was one of the 3 best defenders in the SEC Tournament.

If he can do that dependent then he's a hell of an athlete.

Horry was good on D (great as shot blocker) but didn't play great D consistently.

He would no-show in some games that weren't as important.

And I'm his biggest fan.

I wonder who will be the next Alabama player to get labeled selfish and lazy with insinuations that he's a stoner from the less desirable segments of the fanbase despite literally no evidence whatsoever to support any of it.

I could see Miles getting the treatment.

Somebody is gonna say we're better without Davison the first time he goes 5/14 and has 4 turnovers.

Petty is one of my favorite players on this team. He's much more than a 3-point shooter. Pointing out he's had ball control problems since he arrived on campus isn't that harsh of a criticism. And even with his shot not falling much the past few games, I want him taking shots. He has the ability to get really hot and light it up.

I can see both of these happening.

My memories of Horry here center around a few things:

1) trying to guard Shaq (not sure why that's implanted in my head)
2) the idea that he was sort of in and out of Wimp's doghouse
3) the 1992 team and the Arkansas games (including the SEC tournament game in Birmingham)

I don't know how consistently he was in Wimp's doghouse, but I definitely remember that being a thing (even if it was possibly slightly overblown).

Pettway was definitely a competitor and a good defender, but too small to really guard multiple positions. I think you could make a solid argument that Herb is our best defender since the CM Newton days (I don't really remember Ainsley or McKey).

Possible, but Miles isn't a former 5* who will be labeled a failure because he wasn't a one and done so that might save him a bit. But I can totally see people implying that he's a stoner every time he throws the ball away or something.

shite, someone is going to say that after game one when he doesn't go for 30/6/5 in his college debut.

Rick Pitino, Iona coach, on Zoom: “We have watched so much film. Tonight we’ll watch a movie just to do something else.”

Guesses on which movie?

Timeless Classics:

Hoosiers
Glory Road
Coach Carter

Or maybe these classics:

Semi Pro
Uncle Drew
Space Jam
White Men Can't Jump
Air Bud

I honestly am struggling to think of a guy that we've had that's a better defensive player than Herb.

It would be hard to beat Herb. Other good defenders that come to mind:
almost any player Wimp coached (Askins and Cheatum come to mind). Defending was not optional under Wimp :)
Also, Roy Rogers became a pretty good defender his last couple of years.

Horry did a decent job guarding Shaq. Better than a lot of other players did. I'm pretty sure Shaq fouled out of the game in Coleman when they went head to head. I think Horry fouled out as well. I remember it being a battle. They also had Chris Jackson who I think Hollywood Robinson guarded that night. Maybe Alvin Lee.

He definitely was a lot his freshman year. I'm pretty sure Horry even admitted he showed up on campus with an entitled attitude and didn't always have the best attitude. I don't think he was in the doghouse much his final 3 seasons.

Pretty sure Wimp sat Horry twice, once regular season against Ole Miss (??, think we lost at home) and once for sure in the SEC Tourney.

John Petty has improved handling the basketball because at one point in his career he was a walking turnover similar to Rojas. I would like for him to shoot a lot as well!

Yeah, he doesn't have the ball on a string like a Kyrie Irving or anything, but it has definitely improved from where it once was.
