Trivia time.... when was the last time Alabama Basketball was #1 in the Nation? And which of the most wretched of teams ruined it?

I know we lost to Utah. Not really sure exactly what year it was without cheating.

I'll say fall of 2002.

It was around Christmas of the 02-03 season. And that team went 7-9 in a really tough SEC and still made the tournament

one of the few weeks in over 100 years of history at UA where the basketball team was solidly better than football (the football team was bowl banned and suffered losses including unranked Auburn)

Not sure how and it doesn't really matter, but we only dropped 8 spots in the RPI.

Again not sure how, but our RPI jumped up to 63 which is just 2 spots behind where we were before the Auburn loss.

The Auburn loss was almost too much so I haven't posted about basketball lately, but just a random observation: Trevor Lacey is shooting 67% from the line. Do not get it.

I would've loved if we had shot 67% at the line in the last minute and a half on Saturday
But yea, there's no excuse for Lacey shooting that poorly.

Time for Grant to get that first W over Martin tomorrow.

For the sake of argument...if we win out with the exception of @UF, do we make the tournament? OM is entering their annual death spiral so I view that game as a tossup at this point because they will be just as much of a dumpster fire as we are by the time we play them. We get UCSe, State, Auburn, and UGA at home. No excuse to lose any of those. If we can beat LSU and OM on the road I could see us sneaking in.

I could see it, but it would almost be like when USC and VCU got in 2 years ago. Maybe not that much of surprise, but I'd certainly be a little surprised. Now if we make it to the SEC Championship game we'd have a much better shot at the at-large bid because we will have most likely beaten one quality RPI team and a non-terrible RPI team.

Jerry Palm doesn't think so

Well...at least we played well for 15 minutes and won.

I had things going on and couldn't watch it as closely as usual, but I thought even in the second half we ran some decent offense (by our standards), just didn't always make the shots.
We just can't afford to be a shitty FT shooting team. It's enough that we never get many second chance points, throw in missing free throws and we may never score 70 points again.
18-33?
I thought there were some positives though. Lacey was good, and he's pretty much our point now. It's funny that Releford had one of his best distributing games in a while during a game where Lacey was running things.

15 minutes more than usual.
We'd be pretty good if we could play like that for 25 or 30 minutes on a regular basis. But inevitably, we get a big lead and go into stall ball mode. Sometimes, like this afternoon, we can pull out of it if the other team goes on a run. Sometimes we can't.

No matter how much shite I talk about Grant, I couldn't resist the urge to take a picture with him tonight
