LeBron and Snell could start for any team in the conference. Snell had a hellava year. LeBron hitting in the 2-3 hole for lsu with all those studs above and below him in the order would be scary. His average dropped but opposing coaches with damn good pitchers knew the key to beating bama was to keep LeBron off the bases. LeBron was also pressing late in the season.

If the Supers and CWS told me anything, we need about 7 more quality pitchers.
My Lord the pitching staffs some of these teams had showed out.

We just don't compete at the same level for volume of quality arms. We can get 1-2, but in the age of the portal and NIL and scouting every amateur arm with video and metrics since they were 12.........you aren't going to stash/hide kids you see anymore. And that means we have to beat other programs for elite arms with money and recruiting, and that just isn't going to happen.
Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee have waves of freshmen/sophomores who aren't quite ready to be elite yet but throw 98 and have at least 1 devastating off-speed pitch. They just compete on another level in terms of depth of talent - especially arms.

Agreed and until we put more resources into the Baseball program (ain't happening unfortunately) then we will never truly make it to the elite level. What we can look at is that Tennessee was never a truly great baseball program until Vitello and when he started winning games the support/$ showed up and now they can recruit and attain at that level . So if our fans and aministration can gain more bandwith for another sport I don't see that we can't get to that level at some point.

I will say we have some good quality coming in if the draft doesn’t get em but you are right, we will have to pony up to get a lot of them and we know what that means .
ETA-that’s why I was mentioning wanting to get some P4 transfers instead of hoping mid majors can make the jump to SEC ball. At least they had the “stuff” to get a shot out of HS

Yep - it's not a woah is me situation, nor is it a "we have no shot" thing, but we can't build a roster of arms the same way those schools can. Our approach has to be different - and I think it has been/will be. But our margin for error is smaller because you have to be right about the guys you bring in or you look up and have a middle of the pack CUSA bullpen like we did this past year.

You still have to compete with a lot of other teams for those guys, including those who are willing to throw 6 figures at a guy who can throw hard but is unproven. I mean, LSU took one of our live arms two years ago (discussed in this thread) on a flyer, probably paid him a nice little chunk, and he pitched 3 innings in two seasons. This was a guy that pitched a good bit for us.
Now - one thing that will help in terms of distributing some of the high-level arms is going to be the roster limitations. Being able to carry over 40 guys is over. Rosters now will have to be trimmed to 34 by the spring semester. That means there will be live arms and talented guys looking for places to go. I don't know how much it will impact 2026, but I think in 2027 we'll be able to potentially capitalize on that.

What an enigma. His commitment was so quiet and he never gained any traction here.

Yea I thought Woods would do well at Bama but can understand going back to your home state and wanting to give LSU a shot

Maybe the transfer news we are supposed to be getting shortly will be good

I’ll accept the fact that we aren’t going to get a roster full of 97-101 MPH guys and will settle for 5-7 pitchers that don’t tuck their tails and run in crucial moments or at the first sign of adversity.
Some of these guys for LSU and Arkansas and other super regional/CWS teams had their best moments of the year when they were under the spotlight.
They didn’t flinch at the 25,000 screaming fans.
That’s hard to teach/find.
Most of our pitching staff were a bunch of poodles playing against bull dogs.
Need more dawgs.

100% - and LSU seems to have a starter every year that starts off the year raw and by the end of the year is an absolute ace. Kade Anderson had a solid Freshman year, had an ERA of like 7.50 in mid-April, but then all of a sudden he turned into a Top 10 pick.
Like you said, part of it is God given and part of it is mentality. And this group we had last year didn't have either.

Outside of Quick, our pitchers room for error is slim
