A slight underdog crimson tide team went in Baton Rouge, and turned the football over to a seldom used Freshman running back. He responded by setting a single game Alabama rushing record, just completely blitzkrieging the LSU defense to the tune of 291 yards. Bama won the matchup 26-0, and some say Shaun Alexander can still be seen running up and down the field at Tiger stadium.

Can history repeat itself?

I know Shaun was a great running back but I think he’s a little too old now.

Think we turned around the next week at lost at MSU due to a missed XP.

Reportedly CGS and the AD got into it after that and it pretty well made CGS decide that would be his last year.

Shawn had a 73-yard touchdown run and a 72-yard touchdown run.The rest of his 291 yards came across his remaining carries as he averaged 14.6 yards per attempt.

irc, he was not the starter in that game

He was 3rd string I believe. Reportedly because he wasn't much of a practice player and not the best at picking up blitzes.

Want to say Riddle and C. Alexander were ahead of him.

Here is what Shaun did going into that game:

6 carries, 19 yards 0 TDs
5 carries, 13 yards 0 TDs
9 carries, 54 yards 1 TD
3 carries, 34 yards 0 TDs

Boom.

20 carries, 291 yards, 4 TDs.

Wild to think about really.

From what I heard he was a terrible practice player.

I think that the same has been said about Derrick Thomas as well.

He admitted this himself in an interview years ago.

Some guys just don't have homerun power. Some guys will hit one if they get enough swings. Shaun hit two that night. I think EJ could do the same with 20 carries. Maybe one day

Saban was at Mich State in 1996.
