Think we lost leverage with Smalls because Tosh left. Lost To'oto'o for the same reason.
If Tosh ends up at 10rC as some are saying then Smalls may end up a lock for them.

Your post is the first mention of Tosh to UT that I've seen since he went to the NFL.

I have heard the same rumor of Tosh to 10rC.. I hope it’s just a rumor.. he can recruit. Him and Pruitt would be a recruiting power team.. he would just have to let Pruitt coach..lol

The rumor of Tosh to UT was on he Sec Rant a week or two ago by some UT fans. It makes sense in a lot of ways

tosh seems to be a very good position coach. we know hes a great recruiter. if his desire is to move up the ladder, then staying in the nfl would seem to best, for now.

Just an FYI to Bama brethren on 5* TE Arik Gilbert from what we are hearing on UGA side.
Dawgs were favorite through the spring to land his commitment but has basically come off the rails since then and we now expect it to be a Bama /TennRc battle.
While UGA still wants Gilbert, he wants to be featured more like a receiver and of course Pruitt has promised him exactly that. Two of Gilbert’s 4* teammates have already committed to the Vols (Marietta HS QB Harrison Bailey and OLB BJ Ojulari). UTjr new OC Jim Chaney couldn’t utilize TEs at UGA so this had to be the pitch.
Personally if I was a Top TE, Bama and Iowa seem to be the places to go to get developed for NFL.
UGA the favorite to get the other 5* TE in Darnell Washington.

Yeah, I have read the musings about Gilbert: essentially wanting to be a jumbo WR, not wanting to block, not wanting to put his hands in the dirt etc.. IF true, I'm not sure how well that would work out for Bama. We require all of the TE's to be capable blockers willing to do the dirty work.

Gilbert is a strange case because his best position could be as a Defensive End but he wants no part of that at all. He is a heckuva player but already sounds high maintenance.

Tennessee when they are at their best has recruited California hard so it would make a lot of sense for Tosh to go to Tennessee.

I've seen plenty in Gilbert's own words and on 247's UT, UGA, CU and UA sites (articles, mod and insider posts, etc.) that pretty strongly indicates Bama is the team to beat for Gilbert at this juncture. In fact, 247 mods for UGA, UT, CU and UA have all recently said if they had to place a CB pick right now for Gilbert it'd be Bama.

It was a lot easier to recruit California in the 1990s when there was no major PAC12 power having sustained success.
But that can probably be said for a lot of Tennessee’s major recruiting grounds. No Georgia, LSU, or Clemson to contend with throughout much of Fulmer’s tenure.

It makes sense for UT's benefit in recruiting, but does it makes sense for Tosh in advancing his coaching career?

Breh, USC and UCLA are in the toilet right now. Tennessee would have to battle Washington, Washington State, and Oregon for Cali kids. I'd like Tennessee's chances against those three.

I think someone will give Tosh a head coaching job sooner or later based on his recruiting prowess and try to surround him with good coaches. Tosh is a younger, better recruiting Ed Orgeron.

YES, I believe Bama is the team to beat for Gilbert - just don't discount TennRc. Besides his highschool teammates already committed, Pruitt will tell him what he wants to hear. I predict BAMA today but it could be closer than you think.

ETA: Playing with a few HS teammates could be nice and all, but for such an important decision, I don't think that'll really be a major influence.
TE Irv $Mith already scoring TDs in the NFL.

Preaching to the choir. As athletic as Gilbert is, he is a 4.7/40 guy and will never be a pure WR. He’s a move TE that is big enough and strong enough to block.
Bama has the pedigree and proof of developing top notch TEs. 100% agree with you he SHOULD choose Bama if the other option is Vols.

The point was that the 1990s were overly good to Tennessee in recruiting. They didn’t have to really contend with any major power in the areas they usually target.
