PSA: Steve Wilfong just CB'd Zachary Evans to UGA

If in the SEC would rather him at UGA then aTm as I think aTm he boost their offense to become a contender. UGA they always seem to have a great RB corps but never prevented us from winning the game.

Evans is going to end up at TAMU when all is said and done.

I hope we go after McClellan and don't waste too much time on Evans.

I won't even try to predict where a kid like Evans ends up signing. Within the last three weeks, where he's "trending" has jumped from Bama to ATM, to UGA. LSU is still a player too. So it looks like a safe bet there'll be more twists and turns. With tOSU losing out on Bijan Robinson to Texas, as well as their 2nd RB target, they could also get back in the mix for Evans.

I doubt Bama will throw in the towel, nor do I think they should. But I would like to see Bama push harder to flip Jase McClellan -- sooner rather than later. I think it would help matters with Evan's for him to wonder if he could lose his spot at Bama.

It seems to me McClellan may like and fit Bama's culture more than Evans. According to Tim and Hank, some in his camp prefer Bama over OU. And, Jase has said Bama has a "good chance" of flipping him.

ETA: McClellan plans to take an OV to Bama for the LSU game.

I'd rather Evans go to Georgia instead of A&M. He'll never win anything at Georgia, but he could help A&M be a contender.

As a rule, I'd prefer studs not choose our divisional opponents.

Well while we’re wishing I’d like him to stay out of the sec period if he’s not coming to Bama.

The QB dominoes are falling fast in 2021, earlier than ever (247Sports)
quote:

The pursuit of top quarterbacks presents some of the most unique challenges for college football staffs on the recruiting trail. The recruitment of the position is both highly nuanced and delicate from a strategic and philosophical standpoint. No position does more to determine a program and coaching staff’s trajectory and success.

Quarterback recruiting has been dubbed “a different animal” for years. Most programs only take one signal caller and the limited spots creates a first come, first serve situation, which typically accelerates a quarterback’s decision-making process. The nature of national quarterback recruiting often leads to a fascinating domino effect, with top programs and signal callers playing a game of musical chairs, jockeying for desired fits–on both ends.

In the past, the quarterback domino storyline has played out in the early- to mid-spring prior the prospects’ senior seasons. Interestingly, we’ve seen this timeline skip an entire calendar year for many of the top underclassmen quarterbacks. Eleven of the top 21 quarterbacks in the 2021 cycle are already committed, prior to taking a snap as a junior. That number nearly doubles the total of top committed quarterbacks from the 2020 cycle at this point last year. This could be in part to the 2021 cycle’s relative depth at the position compared to recent classes. By comparison, several of the Top247's top 2020 quarterbacks were first-year starters as juniors.

Quarterback recruiting is already high-risk, given the importance of the position and its developmental nature. A bad evaluation or two can directly impact wins and losses for years. It’s difficult enough to project a quarterback as a rising senior. With college programs now being heavily incentivized to land a QB prior to their junior season, look for an even higher variance in results due to the decreasing amount of exposure and body of work to evaluate.

Whether this is a one-off or an emerging trend, remains to be seen. Regardless, it has created a unique and fascinating situation that will be fun to track over the next several years.

Here’s a rundown of the major 2021 quarterback dominoes to date . . .

DRAKE MAYE, CHARLOTTE (N.C.) MYERS PARK

Commitment: Alabama 7/17/19

Recruitment: The Crimson Tide had its top two targets, Maye and Jalen Milroe, throw at camp in June. Much of the scuttle revolved around Milroe looking to make a preseason commitment, but it was Maye who became the top priority for Alabama and jumped on the Crimson Tide offer. The North Carolina passer was one of the more highly coveted signal callers nationally as he was also a top target for Ohio State earlier in the process and is one of two 2021 quarterbacks with an offer from Clemson. He also held an offer from Georgia and was a top priority for North Carolina as an in-state Tar Heel legacy.

The Player: Maye posted a very strong sophomore season at an emerging powerhouse program, throwing for 3,201 yards, 36 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Maye possesses prototypical size, high-level field vision, feel and pocket movement. While he’s not a big run threat to this point, he’s more than athletic enough for a pocket passer and doubles as one of Charlotte’s best high school basketball players. Maye is a quarterback who is best in live situations and had several strong showings in 7-on-7 tournaments with his high school team this offseason. He pairs that on-field skill set and multi-sport profile with strong bloodlines- his father was a quarterback at North Carolina, his brother Luke Maye was an All-ACC basketball player for the Tar Heels and another brother, Cole Maye, is a pitcher at Florida.

Alabama commitment William Anderson
Alabama commitment constantly thinking about the Tide Andrew Bone • BamaInsider @AndrewJBone
quote:

William Anderson, four-star defensive end from Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Georgia, announced his commitment to the University of Alabama in June. He returned to Tuscaloosa for both of the Crimson TIde's cook-outs in June and July after his decision. Anderson spoke with Mike Singer of Rivals.com as a special to BamaInsider.com about his commitment with Alabama.

rest behind the Pay Wall

Anderson says about Coach Saban, He is very cool. ... every time I talk to Coach Saban I always learn something new about life, how to become a better man. It amazes me how he knows all this stuff and how it can change a person's life."

As to where he will play ..."I will be playing Jack or defensive end," "They (Alabama) don't know how big I will get. I can play Jack or defensive end."

Just wants to get after the QB

I think when it's all said and done, we may have landed the best QB in the Class of 2021. Maye is legit.

Jermaine Burton transferred back to his high school in California two weeks after announcing he was going to IMG.

He's already transferred from Georgia to California once.

Rusty Mansell says if he had to put in a CB today for Arik Gilbert, it would be to Alabama.

I see that Hank put a CB in, but I don't have VIP access. Was it to Bama?

Hank flipped his CB pick for Arik Gilbert from UGA to Foggy "for now."

I thought I heard in radio Gilbert was actually leaning to Tennessee or maybe that was Washington. I know I heard one of them was leaning TN by one of the Alabama recruiting analyst.

Your Burton post made me look at the top Cali recruits and man USC and UCLA must be a mess, I have never seen California so wide open. It is like Helton and Kelly left all the windows and doors open and went on vacation. They might not get 5 Cali blue chippers between them. Even the guys who they count on to commit late don't look like they will come through this cycle (they only lead for 2 uncommitted 4 stars).

Another weird thing is I wonder when the push for QB CJ Stroud is going to start or is everyone waiting to see him in season. If he gets with the right QB coach/offensive system he is going to be a pain in the arse somewhere. If Young doesn't flip I think Sark could do wonders with him.
