For reference, we started 2018 against Louisville, Arkansas State, and Ole Miss.

While this is awesome, and I'm stoked about Tua's progress, I think this is also a reflection of our lack of a running game.

710 yards in the first three games of 2018 vs 539 yards this year, which includes a 75 yard "run" by Ruggs.

Jalen was still playing a lot early on last year too.

I think it has more to do with teams playing us a certain way and us choosing to take the alternative rather than stubbornly run into stacked fronts.

We're adjusting and Tua is reading. It's exactly what we all wanted. And if that means we throw a lot more than we run, so be it. Teams can adjust or we can torch them through the air.

I understand that, but I can't think of a single time so far this season that we've imposed our will on the other team in the running game. That's probably a reflection more on the offensive line struggles, which have been evident, and the change in philosophy you mentioned.

There's definitely going to be a time this year when we need to have a balanced offensive attack, whether it's to run out the clock or whatever.

Dang I didn’t realize he was doing that much better!! I guess it’s kind of lost because more of the big plays are from YAC and we’re all so worried about the defense.

That’s because we’ve been imposing our will through the air.

While this statement is true, it isn't in the way you think. Our rushing numbers are down mainly because we are a pass first team this year and rightfully so. Saban knows more about what he has in Tua plus those receivers than we do. Pass, pass and then pass a little more.

Saban himself says otherwise

or, it might just be exactly like cns said it was. that in the rpo scheme, if the defense lines up to stop the run, you automatically pass. it's not any type of great debate. thus far this season the teams have decided to stop the run so.... tua throws. simple as that.

I agree it is a numbers game whether run or pass but I have seen several times this year where the opponent has 5 or 6 in the box and we can’t run effectively . That is concerning

Chris Owens needs to step his game up. Getting Deonte Brown back is also paramount. He's the best run blocker on the team.

There were multiple low snaps and on the second series he got absolutely run over by South Carolina's nose guard. Flood needs to get that fixed.

Tua is reading the field really well. Those 5-7 yard checkdown passes he's been throwing warm my heart. The Tide's offense will be unstoppable if Tua takes what the defense gives.
