I like it, it will give Bama's rebuilt defense 4 games to get ready for the meat of the SEC schedule.

I hope FSU has a lot of juniors jump to the NFL after this season.

I can't wait to go back and invade Nashville.

I went to the Alabama vs. Florida State game in Jacksonville, looking forward to the next one in Atlanta on 9/2. Shoot, we may even get to play them this year.

Can see myself attending the game in Nashville.
I surely will be in Atlanta for the FSU game.
Home schedule looks good

This season may have been the greatest opening weekend ever, but next year features the greatest opening game ever.

Mercer worries me.
Welp, Auburn does play them earlier in the same season, so I guess they could hand them some cash to go for our players's knees.

I can deal with this OOC schedule, not as lame as this year's.

I don't know. Going to be difficult to replicate the 1978 non-conference schedule.

The 2016 football season is still young and spry, but we took a break from the present to catch a glimpse of the future Tuesday night, as the Southeastern Conference released its 2017 football schedule, via the SEC Network.
Alabama will once again be faced with a stout slate of games in 2017, one that opens with a premier matchup with Florida State in a brand-new stadium in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide and Seminoles are two teams currently fighting for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Could there be a potential rematch game from the four-team playoff in the Peach State? Maybe.
Alabama’s first SEC opponent will be Vanderbilt in Nashville on Sept. 23, while Alabama will also face Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Auburn on the road. The stretch from Sept. 23 to Oct. 21 will be brutal for the Tide, as the team faces Vanderbilt (on the road), Ole Miss, Texas A&M (on the road), Arkansas and Tennessee in consecutive games before its bye week.
Although that five-game stretch may be difficult to maneuver, Alabama will not face consecutive road games next year. It will, however, play back-to-back home games twice (Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 and Oct. 14 and Oct. 21).
So the journey back to the playoff will obviously be difficult for Nick Saban and his 2017 team -- even though they’re still trying to accomplish that in 2016. But there is good news for Alabama. Historically, the Tide owns a 356-157-16 advantage against its 2017 slate, holding a winning record over every opponent it will face, except Fresno State, who it has never met.
With that in mind, BamaOnLine takes a look at how the Tide has historically matched up against its 2017 opponents.
Alabama’s all-time records against 2017 opponents:
Week 1: Florida State -- Alabama leads the all-time series 2-1-1
Week 2: Fresno State -- This will be the first meeting between the two teams
Week 3: Colorado State -- Alabama leads the all-time series 1-0
Week 4: Vanderbilt -- Alabama leads the all-time series 58-19-4
Week 5: Ole Miss -- Alabama leads the all-time series 47-11-2
Week 6: Texas A&M -- Alabama leads the all-time series 6-2
Week 7: Arkansas -- Alabama leads the all-time series 16-8
Week 8: Tennessee -- Alabama leads the all-time series 52-38-7
Week 10: LSU -- Alabama leads the all-time series 50-25-5
Week 11: Mississippi State -- Alabama leads the all-time series 78-18-3
Week 12: Mercer -- Alabama leads the all-time series 2-0
Week 13: Auburn -- Alabama leads the all-time series 44-35-1

I like the first 3 OOC opponents. Probably a pre-season top 5 team in FSU and two respectable Group of 5 teams to start things out...that FSU game will probably be the toughest neutral site opener we've played since Saban's been here...

No offense, but I feel like I've heard that before.

None taken...but FSU's QB looks for real and will have a year's worth of experience...FSU's skill players are athletic, as are their defenders...and Jimbo Fisher is one of the better coaches we've faced in an opener, as far as preparations and making adjustments...
Just curious...have we ever been the underdog in any of our opening games under Saban? If not, this might be the first, depending on how this season plays out...FSU loses Cook but we'll be losing a lot on the defensive side of the ball...

They will be losing a lot as well. Travis Rudolph is probably gone. DeMarcus Walker is a Senior. Their best offensive lineman, Rod Johnson, may leave early.
Our QB will have a year's experience as well with a ton of weapons at his disposal. The defense will be young, but will be salty as frick.

Very young...off the top of my head, for sure, we lose Jackson, Foster, Williams, Anderson, Allen, and Tomlinson...we probably lose Humphrey as well (he's projected by several to be a first rounder). SDH, Evans, Hand, Jones, and Averett are draft eligible but I assume they come back. So we're looking at 7 starters gone and all of the leadership (Jackson, Foster, Allen). We have a lot of young talent on that side of the ball, but we're gonna need a lot of 'em to step up quickly, especially on the DL...
