Nah, he's gotta focus on academics to be sure he qualifies. That's why he went ahead and committed instead of waiting until Jan or NSD...

Doesn't look like we're getting one in the '13 class

I've been thinking the same thing, but the staff must not be too concerned since we haven't gone after too many of the big blocking type TEs this cycle. Vogler can play H-back or TE and I have to admit that he's done a much better job blocking this year than I expected. Faciane and Freitag have been quiet but maybe the staff likes what they see from them in practice.

There was talk of Ragland playing TE when he signed but looks like he'll stick at LB. Maybe someone like Gulledge could be moved if we get desperate.

We shouldnt get desperate to get a blocking TE. Im pretty sure we could use Nuddie there in some way if need be. Frietag and Faciane are young and are pretty big. I think coming out of high school Frietag was underrated. Saw some of his teams games and he outshined Lee in every way.

Luatua is a monster TE for '14, blocks as well as he catches.

I think hey are only expecting 3 departures.

- Foster’s coach Mark Lyons spoke to Foster late last night and Foster told him he was going to Pitt. Told his family Wednesday he was going to Pitt. He got down on his knees this morning and prayed about it and said that God told him to go to Alabama. His family and his coach thought he was going to stay at home and be a Panther.

- He did not call any coach before he announced, so nobody knew where he was going. The staffs basically found out when everybody did.

- Five academic support people working with him right now. He has work to do over the summer and has a very good shot to qualify.

- Saban has not visited the school yet.

- Lyons said that Saban never sold Foster a bill of goods that he told him he would have to come down to Alabama and compete, that resonated with Foster who liked the fact that there would be a bunch of future NFL players at Bama.

We are damn lucky that he was picking between us and Pitt instead of us and Ohio State.

All the proposals are expected to be voted on Jan. 19 at the NCAA's annual convention near Dallas. If approved, they could take effect Aug. 1.

This is the first detailed glimpse into how the NCAA intends to rewrite its massive rulebook and Jim Barker, chairman of the NCAA rules committee working on the plan, said the goal is "smarter rules and tougher enforcement."

If the package is approved, the overall result would provide coaches with more leeway in recruiting. The hope is that athletes will build more meaningful relationships with their coaches, and they will get more opportunities to showcase their skills in front of college and pro scouts.

quote:

One key recommendation would create a uniform recruiting calendar for all sports and allow coaches to begin contacting potential recruits after July 1 of their sophomore year, though coaches would still have to abide by the no-contact periods.

quote:

Other proposals would allow:

-Athletes to accept up to $300 per year beyond their own expenses to attend non-scholastic events, receive expenses and "reasonable benefits" associated with practices and competition with national teams, including tryouts;

-Schools to provide normal expenses, including travel expenses, for athletes representing the school at events such as goodwill tours and media appearances;

-Amateur teams or event sponsors to award money beyond an athlete's expenses based on the performance of that athlete or team in all sorts, not just tennis;

-Schools, conferences or the NCAA to pay for medical expenses and any related expenses for the athlete.

quote:

Barker acknowledged this is only the first phase of recommendations. The working group is expected to focus next on financial aid, playing and practice season rules.

Not that it's a big deal, but the little boy who was sitting in Robert Foster's lap during his announcement was his brother, not his child.
