I'm 39 and I believe this is the lowest point of the program in my lifetime. The entire program doesn't have a pulse, and I blame Grant and also Battle for not hiring Pearl last year.

I started keeping up with basketball during the Farmer, Gottfried, Conner, Buck Johnson, Robert Horry years. The Plaid Palace was a very, very tough place to play. We would go seasons without losing a home game. Was almost a lock to at least make SEC Tourney finals. It was a fun time to be a Bama fan. Then Wimp got fired. It has been on a slow death march ever since. It has now reached its destination.

You are seeing what life would've been like if Mike Shula had been retained for 2007. Just a program with no pulse or energy.

A program can always be lower (sanctions, getting embarrased on the court, etc.) so Alabama basketball is heading that way because there is complete apathy, a poor facility, and an administration that has yet to exhibit the willingness to really commit to having a top tier basketball program.

I don't understand the mentality of only wanting a great football program. Bama could be so much more in bball.

The program doesn't even have a pulse anymore. The coach is a zombie, the players are zombies and the fans are zombies.

The sad part is Bama is 12 points away from a 19-5 record, and a probable 4,5, or 6 seed.

But that has been life under Grant. So close, so many years.

2 point losses to Wichita st, Arkansas, South Carolina, an Florida. 3 of those on the road.

The most frustrating part for me is the annual drop in scoring. Somehow they start each year scoring 70, 80 points a game then settle into these 50 point snooze fests come conference play. And, the annual loss to a really, really bad team - that sucks too.

Where were you during the latter part of the Hobbs era? It was much lower then than it is today. Those teams suuuuuuuuuucked.

I have been critical of the play of our big men. I will admit that I thought that Jimmy Taylor played very well last night.

Cecil Hurt made a great point back in 2006. He said that if the point comes where there is serious debate about firing a coach, then it's best to just pull the trigger and fire the coach. A failing coach that is retained rarely turns things around and sometimes that last year is when real damage is done.

Honestly, that is where we were after last season with Grant.

Anyone else remember the "Mike Shula's offense is schematically flawed" article? It was after the MSU loss in 2006. Cecil hadn't stated that Shula should be fired until then. After that, it was over.

I feel like that's the point we're at with Grant. His offenses are schematically flawed and he hasn't earned his pay. Lacey and Pollard are what saved him last year. What excuse will it be this year?

I'm not going to argue his offense isn't schematically flawed, as it obviously is. But at some point you have to ask why we have shot so bad from the 3-point line since he arrived. Is it the shooters? Seems some of them were good shooters in high school. Are we not practicing shooting? Are they scared to shoot for fear of getting benched?

We've seen how well the offense can be in the Arkansas game a few weeks ago when we're hitting 3's. We were 5 for 27 last night. Why do we struggle so much from beyond the arc?

Good question. I'm not going to read through this thread, but I'm sure the obvious factors have been mentioned. There have been too many excuses. Too many opportunities. Too few results. I just don't understand how in four years we don't have one player that we've developed. Releford was a beast, but was he utilized to make the team better or did he score 30 in defeat because we relied too much on him? Randolph is the captain, but he's not enough to lead this team past the second round of the SEC tournament, much less into the NCAA tourney.

Grant's time is running short. If we keep him past this year, I refuse to support the program next year. I support the programs at Alabama that are devoted to success. Keeping Grant is a commitment to mediocrity.
