Marshall was set to take on Army in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, but the Thundering Herd had to drop out of the game due to a player exodus from the program. Independence Bowl executive director Missy Setters announced that Louisiana Tech has replaced Marshall...
quote:

"It is unfortunate that Marshall determined they won't be able to compete in the bowl in a couple of weeks," Independence Bowl executive director Missy Setters said in a statement. "Our goal was to create the best matchup possible for our local fans and college football fans throughout the country, and we think we did that with two conference champions. Moving forward we are very excited to host Louisiana Tech and are thrilled we found an opponent for Army."

Didn’t Tech shaft them a few years back?

Why not invite ULM instead?

Still have more players than we did against Kansas state so I don’t see the issue

Exactly. Suck it up and get out there. LSU went out there and played without a QB ffs

It is a bit different because of money. You at least expected some LSU fans to make the 4 hour drive to Houston because they are familiar with the area and you can make an actual trip out of it. LSU has a lot of fans that live in the Houston area so they at least expected people to show up. What Marshall fan from WV is going to want to go to Shreveport to watch a team that just got gutted? Seriously. A flight or 13 hour drive to Shreveport to watch their team get run over? Nobody is going to show up and nobody is going to watch. By bringing in LaTech, you are putting a whole lot more butts in seats and the local economy gets a much better boost they would not get from Marshall being in the game.

Replace Louisiana Tech with Centenary. I think the stadium would fill up with that. They are in their 1st season in DIII since World War II. They actually have a winning record vs LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss.

bowls should be ended. they are pointless and have been for a couple decades now. this transfer portal and the playoff system is the final nail in the coffin. Have to wonder what the profit margins look like for these bowls.

They aren't pointless to most of the players, especially the players on the teams not in the tournament.

No they shouldn’t. It give programs many hours of practice time that by NCAA rules they wouldn’t get.

Sad, but not surprising!

Well, at least La Tech will get some practices in. Won't be much of a game I'm afraid.

Doesn’t matter. The NCAA couldn’t GAF less.

Almost all bowls are private- the NCAA has no control.
