Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin talked about how he evaluates his potential coaching hires on Friday in an interview with CBS Sports...

“He had all A’s in every single thing he’s ever done,” Kiffin said. “Normally those kids can’t socialize. That’s not him at all.

“He’s got a beautiful wife. How’d Charlie get her? I look at assistant coaches’ wives. It tells me if they are good recruiters or not.”

John Brady said it in '97 while speaking at an alumni function before his first year as head coach when introducing his wife, who was smoking hot at the time. That was over 20 years ago so I'm sure it's been around for quite some time baw.

I used to hate him but that has changed. That comment is funny and actually makes sense. Les Miles didn't have a beautiful wife but he probably wanted a good breeder rather than a trophy. When I was a GA back in the 90's, our HC used this philosophy to decide which of us were on the road recruiting, and who was staying in the office manning the phones and doing paperwork. He said if you don't have enough game to pull arse, then you sure as hell cant sweet talk a recruit either. (I logged a lot of miles those two years)
