When Jeff Bower was coach, hell they were a top 20 team some years. pretty much always went bowling. I think USA is getting a lot of those Picayune, Gulfport, Pascagoula, Mobile area kids that used to flock to USM.

What killed USM football was lack of ambition, as personified by a guy named Jeff Hammond. There is a core of USM "fans" who basically want to be in the Southland Conference. In fact, those are probably the only fans still going to games.
