2023 5-Star Recruit Reportedly Signs $8 Million NIL Deal
© Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports
According to The Athletic, a 2023 recruit has signed an agreement with a school’s NIL collective that could pay him more than $8 million over four years. The recruit will be paid $350,000 almost immediately. This deal will then be followed up by monthly payouts that equal more than $2 million per year.
quote:

“Whatever casual sports fans or coaches think student-athletes are earning from collectives, they’re (undershooting) by 10X. While $2 million (a year) is wild, $200,000 isn’t, but most people are thinking they’re getting $20,000,” Lawrence told The Athletic.

the end of college football as we know it is here. I'm not being overly dramatic - it's true, with NIL and the transfer portal.

Wade just got canned for sliding coin to basketball players like every other head coach in college sports.

End of college football...this shite is going to get so crooked so fast the Mafia will be in it. Talk about unintended consequences....NIL will be the poster child.

it's already that crooked. it can't get any worse. that's how bama's been winning, same as USC did and the U did in the late 80's early 90's. same thing.

This is ridiculous. NIL was supposed to let athletes earn money when a jersey was sold or something like that. It should not be a recruiting tool. NCAA has no way to control it neither

Like it or hate it, any school that wants to be in contention for the national championship better get with the program or get left behind.

LSU cannot compete in this system. Additionally, what group of people with this kind of money waste it on a high school kid who has not proven himself. It’s a horrible investment which will never pay you back your money, and at its best wins a few games. This is crazy town.

Kind of too the point of just saving the money I spend on tickets, travel, food, etc., and just going fishing every weekend in the fall.

And LSU is in trouble for paying players. What a joke.

Wade gets fired one day and a recruit signs an $8mil NIL deal the next. The hypocrisy is palpable.

To be honest, it seems like the “under the table” deals now become the NIL ones. The intent was for players to get paid for their likeness in a video game or a percentage of their jerseys sold, not as a salary. Maybe we are in the final days.

Enjoy your college football while you can. All that will be left is Ivy League-like games.
