LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will start his first college career game in the ReliaQuest Bowl vs. Wisconsin on Jan 1.

Nussmeier will replace Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels, who opted out of the bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft.

On Thursday after practice, Nussmeier spoke with reporters about bowl prep, his playing style, and his new mentality as QB1.

Garrett play at Flower Mound where my son is graduating this year and my daughter graduated from four and a half years ago. Saw Garrett play numerous times. Amazing he is now LSU QB#1.

He has the chest and he wants to be The LSU starting QB. He could have left 2 years ago. He stayed because he is an LSU Tiger.

I get serious Mettenberger vibes from this guy and how he speaks. Obviously a different player but the confidence and how he carries himself seems very Mettenberger-ish

Players that opt out should have to pay the school back some money. Giving out the Heisman trophy before the full season ends makes it a joke award.

A poster who only posts in OT lounge and Poli talk says something incredibly stupid. I’m shocked!

The development Denbrock, Sloan, Davis and Hankton have shown on that side of the ball these first few years is an indication that the next group has been brought along incredibly well.
I think that everyone who thinks our offense will regress next season is in for a huge disappointment. The continuity with our OL sets the stage for everyone else on offense to have plenty of opportunities to shine.
With this upcoming bowl as a harbinger, look for Nuss, Lacy and Kaleb Jackson to all have breakout performances.

I'd be willing to bet a small part of JD5's decision to skip the bowl game was to let Nuss get his shot to gain the upper edge to be the starter next year by playing in this bowl game.
