Following LSU's 38-35 loss to Houston in the Texas Bowl, quarterback Michael Van Buren spoke to reporters and said that he has spoken with Lane Kiffin about returning to the team next season.

Buren Jr., a sophomore from Bowie, Md., played in seven games with four starts this season. He passed for 1010 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Under LK with a competent oline, MVB might be something far better than what we’ve seen.

Not giving up on him yet.

I watched some of his deep throws....idk man

He's had frickin' Joe sloan mentoring him. Give him a spring ball under CLK and let's see what he can do.

He may end up as backup depending on portal- but totally agree. Either way, he’ll be drastically more dangerous under Kiffin/Weis.

Get him or whoever starts next season an offensive line pronto.

He's not a starter, but I wouldn't mind keeping him as a backup.

We don’t know what he is. This OL is so awful, we can’t tell what any QB can do from what we see in games.

We've seen him miss on deep balls when not being harassed. Can he get better? Possibly.

But you can't realistically say we don't know some things.

With no O line to speak of, no running game, the defense pretty much knew what was coming and yet MVB passed for 267 yds, 3 tds and no interception. He had more passing yards than Weizmann, the MVP of the game. What an improvement for him. Not saying he will be the one but he deserves kudos for his performance. So some of y’all need to stop badmouthing him.

Would like to have him back - Kiffin might work wonders with him

He doesn’t throw well. That isn’t an offensive line issue.

This is something elite coaching fixes.

I believe our entire line is in the portal now. GOOD!!! They are horrible.

He won’t feel that way when a transfer with experience comes in. That said, MVB looked much better using his legs and arm last night so I hope we can keep him as the #2 QB but he will find a starting job at a group of 5 team.

I remember when this board wrote off Daniels for his throwing. Seems like most of you all have the memory of a goldfish.

MVB may not be Daniels. But he would be much more dangerous in Kiffin’s scheme.

He has a lot of work to do to be a starter at a big program. Several of those sacks were on him not reading the defense and making sure he had protection. His arm strength is average at best.

He has actually improved since his first start this season. Both in throwing and running outside the pocket.

Someone explain to me where do all these offensive line guys think they are going to? They are hot dog S$&@ and are trying to get a payday ?

Who knows what he can do with an OL and run game, but at the same time, even if he isn’t a starter, it makes your play for a stud portal QB a little easier bc you’d have a backup and might be able to pay more for the portal guy.

In 4 games MVB passed for 1,010 yards 8 TD's 2 INT's, project his totals to 12 games, that would be 3 030 yards 32 TD's to 6 INT's. I don't know about y'all, but those are some real descent numbers. I think with the QB Wisperer, Lane could do wonders with him, I say keep MVB and let him battle it out with the portal added QB's.

Van Buren showed pretty good for someone born in 1782. (In my humble opinion)

Apparently he was told he was not the #1 QB going into next season. Otherwise there would be no “sitting on it”.

People, he is not the championship qb we need. It’s obvious

If LK can do what he did with Chambliss, there is always
a possibility of him developing. Ultimately it comes down to
MVB’s ability to read a defense as to how good he can be.

Kyle Murray and Bryce Young teach us Mechanics is more important than anything. Kiffin has to be effectively teaching throwing mechanics to his QB’s for him to have as much success he has had with QB’s.

Idk if these ## are right. Did he really throw for 250 yds a game with these play callers?? If that's right he was far more productive than it thought.

Hopefully there were talks of changing positions….
