LSU coach Lane Kiffin spoke with reporters this week at the SEC Spring Meetings and was asked about his decision to take the LSU job over the Florida job. Per Outkick:
quote:

“A lot goes into decisions,” Kiffin said. “They have a great program. It really was not about that. It was really about LSU and the belief I had in what we could do at LSU and just how it fit and the timing of everything. So, it wasn’t really about any other program. It was specifically about LSU…

“There was a lot that went into it and a lot of conversations. Amazing program with great tradition and history. Just weighed everything out and made a decision. You’re not going to please everybody with decisions… At the end of the day, went through all kinds of different things, a number of different options, and made this decision for the next chapter.”

People have always made the Florida job this monster that anybody would want. In all honesty it's never been that. Florida has the same problem that Miami has in that it's a huge transplant state and up until the 70's there wasn't much happening except in south florida. Remember, the Gators never won a conference title until 1991. I remember going to Gainseville in 1979 and watched Bama beat Florida 40-0 in front of 35K of which 20K were Bama fans. Florida went on to go 0-10-1 that season including a blowout loss to Ms State who was terrible and losses to Houston (they were really good that year) and Tulsa

Enough said.
Leave the man alone to coach, for goodness sakes.

In other words you can do more at LSU because they're a better program with better athletes in the state per capita, with less in state rivals

Florida was offering the same salary. We guaranteed more NIL.

We lost Tom Herman at the time (dodged a bullet there) because Alleva couldn’t keep his dang mouth shut. I don’t think Lincoln Riley was ever in true consideration when we landed on BK, who I think was the primary target for Woodward then…

No real in-state competition for talent in Louisiana versus Miami, FSU, UCF & USF for the University of Florida to recruit against. We’ll probably never know the weight of individual factors that went into the decision to choose LSU over UF. Kiffin has to say nice things about the UF program whatever his real feelings towards those jorts-wearing Tom Petty-looking inbreds might actually be.

This isn't an issue in that Florida has 22 million people compared to Louisiana's 4.6. Plenty of bodies but a lot of the transplants go back "home" to school, don't care for football and quite honestly Florida's facilities and NIL aren't much to speak of.
