Lane Kiffin Blasts Potential SEC Transfer Rule: "Can't Imagine A Worse Decision"

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin isn't a fan of a potential SEC rule change involving the transfer portal.

According to a Yahoo Sports report, the conference is considering reviving a policy that would require players transferring between SEC schools to sit out one year before becoming eligible to play.

During his radio show Thursday night, Kiffin strongly opposed the idea.

Kiffin said he "can't imagine a worse decision to make" and added that "other conferences would celebrate that rule" because players would simply transfer outside the SEC, according to Jon Blau.

"We'd just be handing away a lot of players every year and limiting them that they can't go to other SEC schools they grew up fans of," Kiffin added.

The SEC previously eliminated its intraconference transfer restriction in 2021, allowing players to move between conference schools without sitting out a season.

No decision has been announced on whether the conference will reinstate the rule.

The idea is to hurt LSU, even if it hurts the SEC.
They should call it the Trump rule. That's how the democrats operate

Win something meaningful and stop being weak and then talk. We are already sick of it. Move on to your next dream job. I can’t speak for everyone, but you’re done. Brian Kelly 2.0.

I don’t have an issue with the rule. I have an issue with it being only the SEC doing it. Why tye hell would you cripple yourself in recruiting/transfer potential when the others are not?

Seems if it was a rule every conference in the country had to follow it might make a little more sense but there’s really no credible organization to enforce rules like that today…

Kiffin is right. Ohio State would no longer have to recruit the best players. They would get every impatient young SEC 5 star.

The SEC done watered itself down by adding Texas and OK, this would make us the PAC10

That rule would be good 20 years ago. Today it's like a death sentence.

It's a start, hopefully other conferences will follow suit. The NIL money isn't the biggest problem with college sports right now, it's the lack of control on transferring.
There should be penalties across the board for changing teams, chasing the dollar. Maybe like in business, the players sign a non compete clause.

Ok, Sankey has to go for non LSU related reasons generally.

Don't worry, there will be a lawsuit filed over this, and the SEC will lose another court case!

This is how it used to be. Needs to happen across the ncaa to slow down this stupid jumping ship every season from team to team.

If these kids are going to be making crazy NIL money, then they need to be signing actual contracts that holds them at a place for minimum 2 years. If they decide to leave early, then the other school would have to buy them out with that money going to the selling schools NIL pool.

I think it would stabilize the team and slow down the rate of craziness. I don't enjoy learning 60 new names every year.

Sankey is as stupid as they come. However, anyone voting to adopt this rule is just as dumb.

I am for this rule…but for all players, not just SEC players. This would go a long way in slowing down the madness.
