LSU Board of Supervisors Chair Scott Ballard and board member John Carmouche held a press conference on Friday to introduce interim LSU Athletics Director Verge Ausberry.

During the press conference, Carmouche made it clear that Ausberry has the full authority to lead the search for LSU's next head coach and make the hire. Per ESPN:
quote:

"We're going to hire the best football coach there is," Ausberry said in a news conference Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. "That's our job. We are not going to let this program fail. LSU has to be in the playoffs every year in football. There's 12 teams that make it. It's going to expand here. We have to be one of those teams at LSU. No substitute."

"We're LSU," Ausberry said. "This place is not broken. The athletic department is not broken. We win."

"We're not slowing down for that," Ballard said. "Verge is going to move forward and knows what he needs to do. But, depending on how that works out and when the new president starts, the new president will absolutely have input and hopefully hit the ground running."

Why don’t we just calmly wait and see who the next coach is ?

If he has sole authority this will be a real clown show! It’s already a national joke and now’s it just getting worse!

A Good Coach wants to know who he’s working for. Hire a friggin AD already. That’s Priority 1. Then go get our Coach.

Somehow that has to be a misprint. No school is ignorant enough for that to be the real truth. LSU is staring DEI hire right in the face. LSU will become Grambling! Won't that be special!!

I knew Verge in our college days. I am not confident he’ll pick the right guy for the right reasons.

The chance our next coach is black went up 129%. This definitely won’t be a DEI hire like the last LSU president . I like Wilson but he didn’t do much at UTSA or McNeese. Fran Brown Syracuse is a name to think about

It does appear that everyone associated with LSU Football is becoming very "dark" shall we say? But then that's what the players mostly are, so why not. I really don't care as long as they play well and win. Sports in America is basically an African American endeavor, and has been for quite a while

Racist insecure white boys don’t want a black coach but you will watch black players try to win for the team you support. Am I correct?

It’s not an endeavor if we dominate sports just like we dominate your women

If this is true and Verge really does have full autonomy to be the next coach, I am going to the bank, taking all the money I have, and putting it on Frank Wilson getting the job

I like Frank also. No reason to look any further as long as he can hire the right position coaches that are needed (i.e. offensive line)

This will set program back a season or two. Not saying CBK would not have reloaded again in portal but all this chaos will reap havoc. Frank Wilson becomes the next coach then Tigers are gone baby. Gone with the wind

We have an “interim” in charge of hiring a full time top level coach!??? WOW?

Top level coaches want to know who they will be dealing with on a day to day basis. I coached on a lesser level, but at a top program. And Head Coaches want to know their AD and personalities etc…. LANDRY is an idiot & now we have Wow Wingery founders running the circus. Bad dream

I have a bad feeling about this.

The guy who is horrible at scheduling games is going to make the coaching hire. This is bad. He will probably hire someone like Deon.

This is a bad decision, a very bad decision!

Is Verne limited to a contingent based contract or does he have real authority? If he is limited to a "metrics" based contract, we are done. If he has true authority, I trust him better than anyone else in that department, the Board or that dipstick governor.

How the frick did this turn into a color thread. Character and position coaches hires are what matters most. Hands on, showing players you care and being available to the entire situation is paramount.
