On Wednesday, ESPN writers picked 'X factor' players from every Top 25 College Football team for the upcoming season and went with LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier for the Tigers.
quote:

6. LSU Tigers
X factor:
QB Garrett Nussmeier

Quite simply, Nussmeier will determine how far LSU goes in 2025. Recent years have been good to the returning LSU starter -- Jayden Daniels being the latest example -- and Nussmeier's stats from last season compare to those of Daniels from 2022 before he won the Heisman Trophy the following year. Brian Kelly did a fantastic job in the transfer portal bolstering the roster, including getting Nussmeier plenty of weapons and added protection. If there were a situation in which a good player becomes great in 2025, it feels as if it's in Baton Rouge with Nussmeier helping Kelly achieve what he came to LSU to do. -- Harry Lyles Jr.
Is there anyone else you think could be an 'X factor' for the Tigers next season?

12 interceptions on Nuss last season. Many at critical times. He has to improve

Anyone else worried a little about the OL?

This board doesn't think about these kinds of things. Even though they'll be up against two first-rounders on the D-line in week one on the road.

I'm not at all worried about the OL on run blocking. The OL last year was garbage at opening holes with good backs in the backfield to boot. However, the pass blocking WAS great last year led by Will Campbell. That is the challenge...to improve the run blocking which shouldn't be hard at the same time maintaining the high standard of pass blocking set last season.

Much like Jayden Daniels, it doesn’t really matter how well Nussmeier plays if the defense is complete f*cking garbage. Jayden Daniels deserved a lot better.

We will now have an experienced center to lead the offensive line. This will improve the rushing game.

Time to watch the Nuss Buss deliver!!!!

Year Two for LSU QBs brings special results and rewards. Nuss is too smart to not take advantage of opportunities. He's clocked as having more running speed than Burrow. Good things should be revealed to us week one.

Another X-Factor could be DC. without that defense, we aren't going anywhere.

If Nuss won’t run, it will be the same story this year. That’s 1 more person in the box or in pass protection that doesn’t have to account for the QB

I agree! Kelly last season and Nussmeier this season promise that if he seems a lot of daylight, he will run. NO ONE is expected option plays but he damn well better learn how to take 12 yards when the defense has dropped off 20 yards behind the LOS. Not only will LSU continue to suffer but the pros are going to take a dim view of a guy who can't take EASY yards and then slide down to avoid the upcoming hits. That is a major part of football at the college and pro levels now.

I was thinking it was AA by the picture. Then I thought of Dodgeball. "We don't even know who our best player is right now. It could be any one of us." Btwn Anderson x 2, Hilton, Brown

How about keep him upright? They struggled last year and they're not going to be better. We need a semblance of a run game as well.

Utter FICTION! LSU's sacked numbers ranked them 23rd out of 134 FBS teams. And some of those sacks were caused by Nussmeier not making the quickest decisions. I agree with your run game statement because the OL were POOR run blockers. But they were EXCELLENT at pass protection as proven by LSU's high ranking facing some of the toughest defenses in the country....the SEC.

Heading to the A&M game in late October, he got sacked ONE time. He barely got touched last year

If he was a threat to run, different scenario last year.
