Is it common for high school athletes that come from extremely high level strength and speed programs to get slower and weaker when they get to big time college programs? Or should they all expect to continue to increase strength and speed? Serious question so hold off on the sarcasm please.

This kid is going to be very special no doubt. But the coaches assisting this young man need some training. The kid did not have a weight belt or his knees supported for that kind of weight. this is why he had poor form and his knees almost buckled from the pressure!

Excuse my error, the young man did have on a weight belt.

Thighs were parallel to the floor. Looked like a legit squat to me.

I bet the LSU staff called him after watching this video and told him to wait on 600 until he's on campus next season. That squat cage is shaky as frick and his form needs work to avoid injury in the future.

thats a hell of a lot of weight for a high school kid no doubt, but if he don't fix his form his back won't last.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, that none of you "know it alls" have never had 585# on your back, much less do a 3/4+ squat with it...

Actually I have squated 585,but I'm also only 5'9". Makes a huge difference.

True, most of us never squatted that much in our life before. But we never tweeted a video of ourselves lifting either. The video is a out him so we'll talk about him. It's pretty simple.

Anyone who has ever squatted 315+ knows that it feels like it's going to shatter your spine when you unrack it. There isn't a high school kid on earth who can do a legitimate squat with 585, it's insanely impressive on his end just to stand there with it on his back much less get relatively close to parallel

I squatted 375 yesterday and didn't have the feeling of my spine shattering. My max is sitting around 405.

Check out mashelite lifting, among others, plenty legit 585 squats out there for HS age. Look that's oly lifting and this kid plays football, so who really cares how much he squats? If his coaches have a damn they would teach him proper form before putting him under a heavy bar

What's wrong with his form? He didn't go parallel but it's not like he was using all back. His back came forward due to the heavy weight but he had it straight and locked

I'd break in half if you put 600 lbs on my back. So I'm impressed.
user avatar
makinskrilla106 months
He will break his back if his form isn't improved. HS weight rooms are sad places these days

I'm sure he's a very strong guy, but that was not a full squat.
