LSU head coach Ed Orgeron addressed the media on Wednesday afternoon to recap National Signing Day and talked about missing out of five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. who was a heavy favorite for the Tigers.

Orgeron said that Surtain called him on Tuesday evening to let him know that he was going to sign with rival Alabama on Wednesday.

After the call, Orgeron switched his attention to four-star cornerback Mario Goodrich but was a day too late as he silently committed to Clemson on Monday night.

Missing out on Surtain and Goodrich means that four-star safety commit Kelvin Joseph will move over to cornerback to add depth at the position, according to Orgeron.

Saban trains his recruits to wait until the last minute so that we're screwed with the other recruits. In this case, if both of these guys were pretty close in talent, you tell them both that the first to commit after a certain date gets the scholarship. You can't let these jerks hold you hostage until the last night before signing day, that's stupid on our part.

Mismanaged? The kid essentially lied to us. It fricked us, and we couldn’t act like what was basically in the bag wasn’t. If we had a crystal ball, we’d at least have Goodrich.

Kary Vincent and Kristian Fulton must be really impressing Aranda.

Sounds like he missed out on the one he should've been focused on, as Goodrich is apparently a man of his word, and Surtain obviously was not.

All eggs in one basket comes back to bite 2 years in a row. You would want to believe one would learn from the 1st year.

Should have gone with good rich all along, both are good athletes, unless u just trying to get a higher signing class just because. Go with a better lean towards your program seems to make sense to me. Goodrich can do all kind of things for you.

He needs to swing attitudes of current players to stay all 4 yrs. Toliver and Jackson will be draft in lower rounds.

Honestly he is just a kid. Can't really blame him but it seems like he had his mind made up for at least a couple weeks..just wanted to build suspense and that's what aggravates me. If u have ur mind made up then commit....but what can u do. It's over

If he announces when he makes his mind up, then he misses out on his scheduled announcement on ESPN with all his homies in attendance.

Got an easy schedule coming up so our offense can take its time finding itself

Moving a Safety to Cornerback makes little sense. The guy was a Safety for a reason...

Or... if you had followed his recruitment earlier, you would have seen multiple mentions that he is versatile enough to play S or CB. Assuming we got Surtain all along, the intention was to play him at S.

Not in high school. A lot of times schools play their better kids at safety because it allows them to cover more field.

Joseph is going to be a great cornerback, a big, physical cornerback like we're used to. I think his natural position is CB and I really hope I'm right about that.

Can’t “O” get a Lexus car dealership like Saban’s Mercedes and just see to it a certain player wins a car at a local raffle contest?

Kind of disturbing to no longer be able to fill all the allotted scholarship slots.

Due to the new rules and the loophole closures, we were never going to be able to fill them in this class. This is a good article that explains how it works now, and how it impacted LSU.LINK
