Paul Finebaum Reacts To The Will Wade News

Paul Finebaum made his weekly appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning” on Monday and talked about Will Wade's firing and the "serious allegations" against LSU. Here's what he had to say, per SDS:

“These are allegations, Cole, but they couldn’t be more serious,” Finebaum said. “When you throw around lack of institutional control, throw around Level 1 violation, accusations of Level 1, you’re talking about a real problem in an athletic department. It goes way back, but to me, LSU has played the long game in this, and they lost. They were hoping that somehow they’d be able to fade the heat and look the other way, and they were caught and that’s why as soon as they saw these allegations, and assuming Will Wade got home from the tournament, he was fired. He should have been fired before the tournament, quite frankly. I wouldn’t have let this guy coach another game once these allegations came in, I think on I think they were either Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Finebaum also predicted how this would affect Wade’s career.

“They’ve got a lot to answer for, nobody looks good down there,” Finebaum said. “Three years the conversation about Will Wade was all over, and LSU fans continue to defend him because he was a good basketball coach. He’s a very good basketball coach, who I don’t think will ever coach another game in college basketball based on these allegations.”

He's not wrong, it just looks bad to continue to try to defend Wade. It doesn't matter that everyone cheats. This is one of the most obtuse forms of cheating I've ever seen.

Yes he is wrong... WW was only doing what all the other successful coaches in CBB are doing. And on top of that those coaches get caught (Coach K, Cal, Self, Patino... the list goes on) and they either do not get sanctioned or they find other HC jobs elsewhere.

Pawl is insinuating that, LSU is the only team cheating in the SEC and references that it's systemic of all of our athletics. Paul is so full of shite. Wade will get another small time coaching job in a few years, rehabilitate his image, and be back coaching P5 in no time. People don't care about paying players anymore when you have high schoolers signing 8 million dollar deals before stepping foot on campus.

Lol Rick Pitino’s Louisville program was getting escorts for his players/recruits and is coaching again. Hell even Art Briles was able to get another gig. It’ll most likely be a few years but he will coach again somewhere.

His point is not all other schools do it. His point is LSU knew, continued to support wade hoping it would all just go away. Had they fired wade when they knew the facts, and they knew more than they say they did, then the take would be LSU acted swiftly and decisively.

Not sure many schools fire a coach based on speculation. If it's me, I'm waiting for the investigation to be done before I fire a coach. Sure, we heard of the FBI sting that alerted the NCAA...but it's really ridiculous that the FBI was how this crap came up when those idiots are too busy working with the NYT and WAPO to create propaganda campaigns.
