LSU Already Planning For 5-Star PF Signee Naz Reid To Be One-And-Done

Naz Reid's time at LSU is expected to be short, according to Adam Zogoria who spoke with Tigers assistant coach Greg Heiar recently.

Reid, a five-star power forward from Roselle, NJ arrives on campus next fall as part of the LSU's 2018 class but expected to play just one year in Baton Rouge before departing for the NBA. Per Zagsblog.com:

“That is our plan, our plan is to work with him daily to make that happen,” LSU assistant Greg Heiar said in a phone interview. “We’re all in agreement that if he works and does what he’s supposed to do, then that should be the plan. But if not, he’ll come back for his second year. Our goal is to work with him every single day to make him the best that he can be to make that a reality.”

NBADraft.net currently projects Reid as the No. 14 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, while ESPN.com does not have him on its 2019 mock.

The 6-10, 245-pounder was named to the McDonald's All-American Game this week.

Reid will arrive on campus next fall with four-star combo guard Ja'Vonte Smart and four-star power forward Darius Days.

What? Ever hear LeBron talk. N.B.A has the smartest players at least as far as bank accounts go. The have also negotiated the best collective bargaining agreement by far. Mid level players get 100 million dollar contracts. The top players get to pick their teams they want to play on. LeBron, Durant, Carmelo. Without taking a salary hit. While still getting options to leave the team quickly. NBA players are much smarter than either football players or hockey players. Baseball is a close second but they were tricked into a punative luxury for teams that has destroyed free agency for the time being.

This is what you deal with if you are a top program, not that LSU is at this time. The best players are mostly one and done these days.

You guys do understand that the perceived purpose of university is to prepare individuals to pursue their chosen profession? It is Coach Wade's (and any other LSU faculty member's) responsibility to prepare their pupils to "go pro." Whether that is as a basketball player or a nuclear biologist! Please don't lose perspective.

A game is not a profession. It is not a guarantee you will be a pro. A profession is a doctor, nurse, teacher or law enforcement. That’s what college prepares you for over 4 years not 6 months. It’s why B.B. players get to the pros, burn all their millions and become a joke.

I hate the one and done rule in college basketball. It is detrimental to all involved. Sure we will benefit from this young man’s talent for one season but it is highly unlikely that he will attend more than just a few classes much less leave any smarter than his initial arrival on campus. I’d rather build a team on a foundation of three and four star players that will be here for 3 to 4 years then a series of one and done superstars. These kids are supposed to be there to gain some semblance of an education.

I like this approach. I think it's best to be realistic with guys like this instead of lying to everyone and saying you would love them to stay.

I used to agree with the common sentiment that we should recruit players that we think will stay for a few years. After watching what Kentucky does year in and year out with a team of players that generally stay only one year, I think that is the way to go. If you can manage to fill a team with the nation's best players, even if they only stay one year, you can be an elite program.
