During SEC Media Days this week, Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Davis was on the SEC Network and explained why he declined to go to the NFL last season and why he's not taking any NIL money this season. Per SDS:
quote:

“Honestly, it’s such a small window that I have not done anything,” Davis said. “… Name, image and likeness is a great platform for the other players, but me personally, hands off, I don’t want it.”

Davis last season started at nose tackle in seven of 10 games and finished with 16 total stops.

Davis also declined to go to the NFL after last season and return to campus. He explained what he’s focusing on to improve this season.

“Definitely pass rushing, I feel like I lack in that,” Davis said. “Honestly, mentally, I just want to be able to know the playbook inside and out. I want to know why I’m doing these plays. Not just what I’m doing during the play, and I feel like that’s a big aspect in the game that I failed to realize as I was getting acclimated and young, but nowadays, I’m starting to understand why I’m making these plays and why I’m doing this, or why I’m in this spot.”

It will be interesting to see how NIL will work out for the "big stars." Will the early money make them less motivated? Until NIL, the path to big money was to play at a very high level and hope for the NFL career.

Well, if Bama's new "million dollar QB" doesn't perform, he may become the highest paid bench warmer in the country. There is alot to be said for focus, especially during your formative years.
