Texas high school star sprinter Matthew Boling of Houston Strake Jesuit ran an official 10.13 in the 100m dash at the Texas state championships on Saturday, breaking Henry Neal’s 29-year-old record of 10.15 seconds...

But he wasn't done. His best came in the final leg of the 4x400m relay when he
erased a three-second lead, giving his team the win with a time of 3:10.56, the best in the nation this year...

That announcer is a microcosm of what sports reporting and color commentary have become. Feel bad for the kid and his family that was in the lead to have to listen to that. Just terrible.

Poor kid with the lead. He had 99% of the stadium against him and had to listen to the announcer.

The announcer was extremely unprofessional in that race. He should be put out to pasture. To make the entire final leg all about the one kid is disrespectful to the other athletes who are trying just as hard as the the Jesuit (just obviously not as talented). But 100% effort is 100% effort regardless how much talent someone has, and to dismiss everything every other one of those athletes is doing is a shame. I am all for the announcer getting the crowd hyped, but make it about the race, not one kid and the last time we may ever get to see him run... until he goes to college and runs again.

He ran a 9.98 100 meter earlier in the year but I believe it was wind aided. The kid is extremely talented.

He also ran a wind legal 10.13 100M, which set the official HS record.
