Here's the real story:
In 2004, USC defeated Oklahoma in the BCS National Championship game (Orange Bowl) and was awarded the AP and BCS national titles. However, an NCAA investigation revealed that USC had committed violations, including improper benefits received by Reggie Bush. This led to the NCAA vacating USC's 2004 and 2005 wins, including the BCS title. Therefore, OFFICIALLY there is no 2004 champion so Tommy......now you know the rest of the story!

The NCAA can't vacate a title they didn't award.
