Paul Finebaum Reacts To Nick Saban's Controversial CFB Playoff Suggestion
© Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports
Nick Saban has repeatedly called for the College Football Playoff to include the 12 best teams without any conference requirements...
quote:

"The downside of the [new format] is I just wish we could put the 12 best teams in the playoffs," Saban said at SEC Media Days Wednesday on ESPN's College Football Live. "Not worry about conference champions and all that kind of stuff. If you do get beat in the conference championship game and you're one of the best teams, you should still get in there because you played really quality opponents and you played good football.

"That's my only concern about it. I just want to see the best 12 teams in it, and I think most people want to see the best 12 teams in it."
His new ESPN colleague, Paul Finebaum, discussed the suggestion...
quote:

"Saban is right, but there’s so many difficulties of getting to that point," Finebaum allegedly said on Get Up, courtesy of On3's Nick Kosko. "And we couldn’t have gotten to the 12-team playoff with that type of result. But one thing about Coach Saban, and everyone knows how much I love him, but he has won two national championships at Alabama when he didn’t even win his own division."

Yea, and they shouldn't have been in there!

I do believe with the 12 team format you will have at least 3 - 4 of the best teams in college football in it. One of them will become the National Champion.

I predict a lot of tears in this comment section from micro dick LDU creatures still pressed about getting bitch slapped by the better team in 2011.

Looks like you’re the only one whining in here.

“Didn’t even win its own division” sounds hyperbolically and catastrophically hyperbolic and catastrophic when it describes one game as defining the whole season.

The unabashedly hypocritical LDU subhumans will cry, even though had they lost to Bama in 2019 (which they would have if not for Tua's uncharacteristically sluggish start due to missing a month of play), they still would have lobbied to make the playoffs despite not winning their division. Of course, they'll move the goal posts and cry "BUT DAT DIFFURENT CUZ PLAYOFF BAW".

I reject the idea that what Saban is saying here is "controversial."

The problem with having a selection committee is that they weigh recent games WAY more than early season games. UGA got f*cked when they shouldn't have bc they lost last week. UT and UW weren't penalized bc they lost early season. When we all know UGA was better than UT or UW.

Everybody complained about the BCS, but I feel it was very accurate. It would've put in UGA last year.

BRING BACK BCS TOP 12! I liked this BCS. It was objective. It likely would've put UGA in last year over Washington or UT. I think we all know if UGA made playoffs last year, it was highly likely they won it all.

He isn’t right I’m tired of beauty contests in CF. Sports should always be about who wins and who loses

Couldn’t agree with Saban more. All conferences are not created equal. Putting a G5 team in is even more ludicrous. Georgia should have been in two years that they didn’t win the SEC including last year. I have always said even when Florida lost the SECCG in 09 they still should have rematched Bama in the Rose Bowl. Texas was vastly inferior to Florida and Bama. I just want the “best” teams in the playoff. Frick letting a 5 loss conference champ in.
