Nick Saban & O.C. Brian Daboll Weren't On Same Page About QB Decision
© Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports
Alabama’s offensive coordinator Brian Daboll (now Buffalo Bills O.C.) and head coach Nick Saban did not see eye-to-eye on giving QB Tua Tagovailoa playing time over QB Jalen Hurts. Per TideSports.com...
quote:

However, there was some frustration on Daboll’s part on personnel matters, multiple sources told The Tuscaloosa News. These weren’t all that contentious, but they were frustrating for an offensive coordinator being asked to put his best offense on the field. Daboll wanted to play freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sooner than he has given the green light to do so. That doesn’t mean that Daboll didn’t like or want to play Jalen Hurts too. That’s not accurate at all. It’s just that Daboll saw what Tagovailoa was doing in practice against the best defense in the country and wanted to give him a chance once the offense started slumping in November.

It's always so hard to hear about the struggles Bama goes through. Really feel sorry for them. If only they had gotten this problem taken care of sooner things could have turned out much better for them.

Brian Cueball is just going back home and I can’t blame him. He is from upstate New York and I wish Cueball, his ole lady and their 20 kids the best of luck. It’s not easy being an assistant for Saban an his wife needs help with their kids so again, I can’t blame ole Brian Cueball.

We get it. You think it's funny that he's bald.

So coach O and Saban had the same stance

You should never put those two names in any sentence for any reason.

Why are HC’s so reluctant to make the switch to the more talented QB

Because all liability falls on them if the move bites them in a season that was otherwise everything you needed. At the end of the day he made the move when he needed to, it worked, and he’s got 5 NCs in 9 years. It’ll be alright

Buffalo thought the bench warmer was more talented too and made the switch. Look what happened to them.

I wish our team could have that issue

Honestly, Saban sticking with Hurts all this time is one of the more baffling things I've seen in coaching. I say that because I acknowledge that Saban is without peer. Yet, the gap between Tua and Hurts was just so huge.........it's inexplicable

Their freshman running back is better than the guys that started in front of him. Not sure why that was so hard to see either.

I don't think Daboll would have been retained this off-season if he didn't leave for the NFL
