If you lived in Baton Rouge, you got screwed by WBRZ. RIGHT before the broadcast started, Andy Leopold comes on and announces who won. Received a ton of calls irate at the station. He defended it on newscast saying he was just reporting the news. Yeah. By announcing it during a last second promo for the newscast later that night. Cocksucker.

I was 10 and watched it with my parents & grandparents. What a memorable moment for those players and our country. Al Michaels "Do you believe in miracles?" is one of those all-time great calls.

I was at LSU as a student when this happened. We watched the game vs Soviets in our dorm Kirby Smith) and it was so insane!! Then got to get updates from the gold medal game vs Swedes while in PMAC at basketball game. The crowd went crazy when they announced that we had won. They had to delay the game for a few minutes to let things settle down. Pandemonium!! Needless to say there was some partying that night!! ????????

Count me in; I was there, too. We watched the replay of the USSR win on Friday night, then watched the final on Sunday morning. After the game, we went to the Assembly Center for the Kentucky game. When the score was announced, the crowd roared, "USA, USA, USA!!!"
What a great win for the amateur Americans!

Met Mike Eruizone several times at BU hockey Games at the old WBA. Had one of the best lines ever… if I hadn’t scored that Goal, I would be painting bridges in Charlestown! Nice guy to talk hockey with.

A guy I went to college with went to his first ever hockey game while we were in school. When he came back, he said he had ended up sitting next to some guy named Mike who explained the game to him. He also said that Mike had told him that "he had played in the Olympics or something". Son of a bitch got to sit next to Eruzione and didn't have any idea who he was....

I was in high school in Glens Falls, NY. I got a chance to see them play the Glens Galls Redwings - a AA minor league hockey affiliate of the Detroit Redwings. They got beat pretty good - I think the score was 3-1.

Because they got beat by the AA minor league team, I didn't give them a chance against the Russians, since they were supposed to be better than any of the NHL teams.

We all know what happened.

Looking back on it, Team USA was training to play on the international style rinks, which were about 15 feet wider than the NHL style rinks. That is why they didn't look as good in the matches leading up to the Olympics.

I had an opportunity to go see a game in Lake Placid during the Olympics, but I had a HS basketball game that night and couldn't go. My family went and saw a hockey game and watched the ski jumping.

Awesome night. The USSR and USA had played an exhibition a week before in MSG because they probably weren't going to meet in the Olympics. The USSR won 10-3 and took their foot off the gas. They had beaten the NHL all stars as well. There was no social media so gettinginformation had a lag time. We didn't know the game had been played as ABC only broadcast from 7-10 PM and nobody really cared. I had gone to the record store and bought the latest ELO 45 (Last train to London) and came home to see it. Thought the first couple minutes it would be a blowout, then started hoping we just keep it close. The with about 3 minutes left it was heck, win this thing. Still the most unbelievable sports event I ever saw. Will never happen again.

My uncle's last time drinking. He partied so hard that night my aunt told him it was beer or her. God bless him and the US 1980 hockey team.

Still get chills. I visited the LP arena last year. They made it a museum. It looks just like 1980.

And shockingly, the Finns weren't on the other side.
