re: 2019 Football Recruiting Latest Commit **3* LB Jamie Pettway GA**
Seems fishy that 13 of the top 15 players are from STL.

Missouri kids just seem to have zero affinity for the home school. Especially STL kids, which is a shame because STL is vastly outpacing KC these days. It's almost like it's some badge of honor for these kids to spurn the home school. Not sure how you change that. May be time for Ford to be put out to pasture and do what Illinois just did.

You're right, and again I don't know how to change it. No idea really. People will say "just win" but even at the peak of GP era we were not exactly cleaning up in the area.

I don't really know how any of the STL kids are leaning in this cycle, but I'm not optimistic. Jameson Williams looks like a HEAVY Oregon lean just from the ole Twitter musings.

That’s all that’s going to change St. Louis. Everyone has their hand out.

Saw isaih williams on ksdk last night. Didnt mention Mizzou but did mention lovie, harbaugh and saban. Since the coach from trinity is headed to illini, we have little chance with those guys.

I applaud the effort, but I just can't see any blue chippers heading to Illinois

Another player that's not interested in Mizzou(I. Williams)
He has never shown interest in Mizzou.

re: 2019 Football Recruiting Latest Commit **3* LB Jamie Pettway GA**
I'm sure money is part of the problem with some recruits, but that is not exclusive to the 314.

Some folks on this board have brought up a couple of names of prominent people in the STL athletic scene that have openly worked against MU through the years after being "wronged" by MU coaches (like Irons from Vashon in BBall). That has played a part, especially in creating the culture you described where it almost feels like STL kids are looked down upon if they "settle" to go to MU.

Part of the problems is the ratings systems. They tend to evaluate kids from larger schools in metro areas, because they can evaluate multiple prospects in games between big schools, rather than a single prospect they have to drive hours out into the boondocks to see.

This leads to hurt feelings when MU coaches find a rural MO kid or kid from another state who is not rated, or a low 3, who is better than the high 3 or low 4 from the STL. Kid, coaches, and people in his group get confused and insulted when MU does not treat the kid like he is their end-all.

I also think many second-tier (low 4s/high 3s) prospects from big teams sometimes get overrated due to their success alongside a top-level teammate (high 4 or 5 star recruit - an elite). Rivals and Scout lean more heavily on measurables and stats for their rankings, where I think more college coaches lean more heavily on watching film and seeing the kids play where you see more intangibles and drive.

I also think Rivals and Scout evaluators will sometimes throw coaches from powerhouse high schools a bone by favorably evaluating a lesser known prospect from the team that the coach likes in the interest of developing the relationship with a coach they will want to talk to about multiple players down the road. Again, indicating to a kid he is much better than the player coaches are seeing when they evaluate who they want.

How accurate is that list when it comes to offers? A couple of two stars have offers from Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc. I do not see any powerhouses recruiting our 2 star recruits

I’m not sure it’s just about money to recruits. I’m guessing it’s more about money to handlers and coaches, etc. St. Louis, like many cities, is a pay to play kind of place.

Agreed. Worse in basketball, or just different?

re: 2019 Football Recruiting Latest Commit **3* LB Jamie Pettway GA**
I thought we were talking mainly about STL recruits? STL does not produce blue chippers the powerhouse programs chase every year. Every once in a while, but not yearly or anything. Nebraska and several Big 10 programs, as well as Oklahoma do chase the high 3-star/low 4-star recruits Missouri tends to produce regularly.

re: 2019 Football Recruiting Latest Commit **3* LB Jamie Pettway GA**
I’d say worse. But that’s mainly due to the differences in the sport.

Two or three blue chippers in a group can change your whole team. You buy or influence three 4/5* players, you’ve got a whole different outlook as a team. If I can affect the recruitment of three players per year for $100k to $150k, what team wouldn’t be doing that based on ROI? They may not do it because of compliance reasons or other reasons. But from a strict return on investment, you could spend much more than that.

With football, you need a good dozen players to make a huge difference, at least. And it’s a little harder, I think, to predict success of football recruits than basketball.

Also, with the AAU circuit being the primary showcase versus high school football, it allows a lot of influence to come from the shoe company and their handlers and reps and agents and to become intermixed with the whole process.
