With the Olympics over, track star Alica Schmidt is reflecting after her German team failed to qualify for the final in the event...
quote:

The Olympics are not just about winning medals. It‘s about being alongside inspiring athletes while competing at the highest level. Showing ambition, celebrating diversity and people no matter who they are and where they are from.

The past weeks were an emotional rollercoaster and I was able to learn a lot. As an athlete I am still not where I want to be and maybe I will never be. But the one thing that is for sure: I will never stop trying and figuring out ways to improve. I love taking you guys with me on this journey and hope to inspire young athletes and show how amazing this sport can be!

Everyone who knows sport is aware that it takes a village getting there and all athletes can be so proud of themselves for making the team! And to those athletes who didn‘t make it to Paris this year, never stop believing in yourself. It‘s a bumpy road and one day all your hard work will eventually pay off!

I really haven't watched much Olympics in the last 20 years but I did catch quite a bit this year. I surprised myself when watching our guys/girls in running events.

It was like a guy from one of my fav teams breaks loose on a long run or returns a KO or pick six for a long one. I was practically up on my feet cheering...haha. That was surprising that I got so into basically watching folks run in a straight line. Kinda sad it's over.

To me, track and field is the purest form of competition for the Olympics. The competitions are simple. Who is the fastest? Who can jump furthest or higher? Who can throw something further. Etc.

You aren't judging who danced the best or did the best gymnastic routine.

Completely agree! I watch the "judged" events like gymnastics, diving, etc. but as for the competition, give me a finish line or a measuring tape any day.

99% of attendees know going in they have zero chance for a medal.
