I don't think he was totally in the wrong here, but with nil contracts these players definitely need to be careful with what they do. They are paid professionals now, not "student-atheltes", so they are subject to different rules now.

Its part of the tradition of college football. I ran on the field when LSU beat MSU 38-31 in OT when Wayne Madkin was the QB. Rohan and Reed went off that night. That said, I did not get near an MSU player. But I have common sense. I can relate to the player. He just poured months of work into this season and was probably frustrated.
