In 2009, Jeffery was in the midst of a recruiting battle between Tennessee and South Carolina. He later committed to South Carolina. Kiffin, then coach at Tennessee, was heavily involved in the recruiting.
According to Jeffrey, Kiffin told the future Bear if he committed to South Carolina, he would end up ‘pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.’
