On October 28th, 1989 Ole Miss defensive back Chucky Mullins’ collided with Vanderbilt fullback Brad Gaines, leaving Mullins a quadriplegic and which eventually led to a pulmonary embolism from blood clots due to inactivity. He later passed away in May of 1991. This year marks the 25th anniversary of that tragic event, and to pay tribute to Mullins, every player will wear his number on their helmet against Memphis this weekend...

They will also be retiring his number Saturday. Nice job, Rebels.

Classy move. Chucky grew up about 20 minutes away from my hometown and his injury is one of my earliest football memories. The ESPN special with Brad Gaines still gets me every time.
