Some ACC schools, including Clemson, are looking to jump ship sooner than expected.
Per Post and Courier...
quote:

School administrators indicate an announcement about a Clemson bolt from its growing financial disadvantage in the ACC relative to SEC and Big Ten schools is coming soon, probably along with Florida State and North Carolina and perhaps another ACC school or more — even as University of South Carolina officials try to block Clemson from the SEC.

How soon?

“Sooner than later,” a Clemson senior administrator said last week when asked about a timetable.

Sometime in 2023?

“Stay very tuned,” the administrator said.
...
While most Clemson administrators and fans prefer a move to the SEC, the Big Ten is a possibility.

The process, perhaps unfolding, might go like this:

• The Big Ten gets serious about adding a Southern tier led by North Carolina — the top non-Notre Dame prize for both the Big Ten and SEC — and also including Clemson and Florida State, with perhaps Georgia Tech and/or Miami.

• The SEC counters, wanting North Carolina primarily, and seeking to block such a major Big Ten (or Big 12) move into its footprint.

While SEC officials this week again declined to talk about specific schools, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey was to the point in his annual SEC Media Days address while in Atlanta in July of 2022. Sankey said the SEC is happy with the move to 16 members with the addition of Oklahoma and Texas.

“But we’ll watch what happens around us,” Sankey said, “and be thoughtful but be nimble.”

UNC is a natural move for the SEC. Incorporate a top academic school with a storied sports history.

Do any of these motherfrickers ever stop and ask themselves if this is good for college football?

Go to the Big 10, the SEC is full. I'm sick of adding teams.

I definitely agree with you. The SEC already has their foot in Carolina. The SEC doesn't need anymore schools. Who wants to travel a thousand miles to watch a football game? The SEC already made a big mistake when they added Missouri. I wish that Missouri would leave the SEC for the Big. Missouri is not a good fit for the SEC. The fan base of Missouri wants the Big.

The process will be ugly but I think CFB will rival NFL in 10 years. Get rid of the NCAA and conferences form their own leagues

between NIL, open transfer portal, and conference realignment into mega-conference, college football is unrecognizable. And not for the better.

How many godamned teams will the SEC have when it's all said and done?

It's going to end at two major conferences. Both with 24-32 schools.

we'll need a 4-team playoff just to see who wins the SEC.

We're getting awfully close to being able to revive the Blue-Gray Football Classic as the national championship game.
