What should we have done instead against a much better front?
Posted on 6/17/17 at 10:14 am to djsdawg
Trips on every play with a wheel route until the front 7 backed off.

I'll also add that the strategy last year was very much like bobo, run run run until you wear them down then pull away in the 4th.
Problem is we weren't wearing anyone down, except ourselves.

Won the SECE in '11,'12 and a top 10 in '14.
With our schedule and talent at the very minimum we achieve what we did in '11 and '14.
BTW if not for injuries and one of biggest flukes in
the history of flukes we win 10 probably 11 in '13.
We also beat a top 5 and a top 10 team.
ALL those rosters I mentioned had less 4 and 5 stars
than this '17 team.

GTFO. Their Oline was much more a capable blocking group than ours could ever dream to be last year
Not talking about last year ...I'm talking about the preseason bitching about '17 line.More than enough talent to be a solid unit.BTW Bama,Ohio State,Clemson and UF ALL
started true freshmen on their O-line last year.

Is that like bump and run?
Posted on 6/17/17 at 12:10 pm to deeprig9
No, essentially the most basic blocking scheme. It's not realistic to do that the whole time obviously, but it appeared we not only physically could not make the blocks they were being asked to make, it appeared at times, they didn't know which ones to make. I can't imagine they figured that out only after the UF game... I think they kept on trying to force it even though it was clear it wasn't happening. I blame that on the players at first, but then the coaches have to take ownership of attempting to continue something that is not working.

There is an air of malfeasance in your post.
You think they knew but did it anyway

Tell me what a half gap is. I does not understand.

The OL was just as bad in 2015 so the players seem to be consistant regardless of the coaching .

There was a noticeable improvement in our rushing game
the last 3rd of 2016 and after the change of blocking scheme. We rushed for 200+ yards vs GT,UK and TCU.
Did the O-line all of a sudden get better or more talented after the UF game?

How did we run so well vs sc and ut of our scheme was so awful?
Posted on 6/17/17 at 2:40 pm to RD Dawg
Would it help our OL if we had a QB with the brains and confidence to audible out of a running play based on how the Defense lines up?
I guess, what I'm saying is Fromm could probably make our OL look a better than Keanu rEAvSON does.

South Carolina was 88th in the nation against the rush last year, and Tennessee was 111.
A better question would be why did we only get 167 yards rushing against Nichols? A FCS team that went 5-6.
Or only 101 yards rushing against Missouri who had the #112 ranked rushing defense?

Or how bout our 1st half performance vs Ole Miss...they
finished at a whopping 120 in rushing defense. Not really counting our garbage yards in the 4th quarter vs 3rd teamers.
Z
Fact is we played against some of the worst P5 rushing defenses in the country in the 1st 2/3 of the season
with TWO future NFL running backs and we averaged 170
yards rushing per game.

Understandable and fair point, but with the way successes have come for other College teams/Coaches we made the change for one reason and one reason alone. Win Championships. Year two under CKS and we have the roster and schedule to make a 13-1 type run. Our roster is beautiful even with questions at the OL and Receiver positions and even there we have a lot of talent. My expectation are high and I'm tired of hearing excuses. Not that you are but in general. That said, I believe in CKS. I believe in our team and I think they're bringing in a different attitude.
This is an, I’m happy with the season bump! Go Dawgs!
