I grew up in South Georgia as well and had a different experience. My friends from the sports I played had my back and I could go anywhere I wanted but when I moved to north Ga I saw racism from all sides.

One of my good buddies was black growing up. He was with a group of friends one day that decided to jump the white boy walking thru a risky area - that white boy was me.

What did my friend do - he looked the other way while I got punched in the ear and his other friend tried to steal my bike. Not once did he ever say leave him alone thats my boy.

My town also had segregated proms and a whole host of white vs black issues. I learned that day that even if your friends with someone - tribalism runs deep.

Does that bring back the life of the person? At some point, when nothing happens people are going to be pissed.

I’m not for defunding the police. I do think we need to do a better job of educating them, but that doesn’t come by taking funding away.

Seems like people have no intention of trying to understand the way anyone else feels.

We all have similar rankings. Only some of us are snowflakey enough to quit being a fan.

I’m glad people like you are here to post the obvious. On behalf of the entire world thank you for your contribution.

So many people use black on black crime as a reason to avoid talking about police brutality in blacks as if it’s some sort of excuse. Not saying you’re doing that here, but I’ve seen that happen a lot.

I’ll never kneel for any political agenda. Those who choose to do so... whatever. If you love your country, support the military, and police etc... do it. No one should or can tell you as an individual what to do. It’s really fricking stupid and are glaring signs of weakness and surrender.

That's an extremely surface level take on the situation.

There are major problems throughout the police force such as the continued militarization of the police to the rather low standards it takes to become a cop in America.

Not to mention the ever growing police state that we live in, championed by the way by Bush, Obama, and now Trump

I’m really sorry that happened to you, but that sounds like an early experience where your friend wasn’t mature enough at the time. I’ve had a decent # of black friends step up for me in situations like that, but those were after high school.

Damn. How many times have you been approached by groups of black guys threatening to assault you? You said that you have had a decent # of black friends step in for you in situations like “that.” And “that” being qualified as the experience that he noted.

Have you also had a “decent” amount of interactions with groups of whites guys wanting to assault you where someone was there to “step in”!for you?

I am just curious as the thread turned a bit when djs made the insinuation that blacks in South Georgia weren’t racist but if they were it was only in reaction to white racism. Bringing that to it’s logical conclusion in regards to your testimony....djs has implied that you are a racist. Is that the truth of the matter?

Georgia On My Mind

I like it....

The only three groups I see getting upset over this are older alumni, traditionalists, and racists. That’s their problem.

As a former member of the band (and one that voiced mild opposition to change during discussion), I'm still sad. I never personally associated Tara with racism, though I can see how people would. In an ideal world for me, it would still be played, but lead into another song. If the change truly helps some of our members feel closer to the organization than before, then I can't very well be against that.

Most racism tends to be white vs black, though blacks can be racist, usually as a response to whites being racist towards them.

Congratulations for posting the dumbest statement on the internet yesterday.

You wouldn't know it based on their complete silence about it while loudly complaining about police shooting unarmed black men, which is a statistical anomaly that happened a grand total of 9 times last year.

Facts don't matter - Feelings matter

Like the fact that whites are statistically much higher - by about 80 pct to be attacked by a black person than for a black person to be attacked by a white person.

I have no problem with calling out a rogue cop and for him doing time if he goes rogue. Rogue cops kill white men to. However, we have went so clown world that the cop in Atlanta who was assaulted by a black man has now been charged by a rogue DA.

Absolute clown world

Y'all aint going nowhere...we are junkies. And who cares what a bunch of 20 year old pampered brats think? I would bet most of them say and do things everyday that would be as shocking to the sensibilities of middle aged men as kneeling during the national anthem...the reaction is what they are looking for....if a person reacts they have played into the hands of the "protestor". On top of this there will be more of the spoiled brats who do not kneel than those who do...why would you abandon them? I personally do not know a living soul on the planet who I agree with on most subjects let alone all subjects....life would be pretty damned boring if a person did find themselves in that position....having a different view on an issue is not a reason to abandon a friend who you have known most of your life and is a source of great entertainment and, from time to time, joy...UGA football is that friend for a real fan...

The thing is, people are paying for sports, not to view someone’s political agenda. And kneeling on the field is exactly that - a political agenda. When they kneel for Captain David Dorn, or that black trooper recently murdered in FL (both killed by guess what - not white guy), then I’ll be more accepting. Until then, they can go frick theirselves. These “protests” are done when it’s convenient... hence, where are the ones for Dorn? .

He wasn't killed by a white guy, so his black life apparently didn't matter enough for them to burn down cities for.

Only when it’s convenient. BLM, like antifa, is funded by Soros.

But if this friend you've known for years suddenly goes full SJW and becomes an insufferable assclown, you still gonna spend your limited time hanging with him- even if you are not enjoying it?

UGA football is a unifying force. We all suffer together! It will ruin the innocence if political issues were shoved down my throat. I'm not suddenly gonna hate UGA football....I'll just choose to spend 10 Saturdays and about $5K somewhere else.
