Pickens and Ratledge. I don't think Pickens will realistically be a possibility until the SEC Championship game. Maybe...just maybe...he could play against Florida but I don't think they'll take any chances given what happened with Blaylock last year. Ratledge will be rehabbing his surgically reassembled foot until April or May...if he gets to practice in spring, that will be fortunate.

But I think Auburn is going to be dealing with us with Blaylock and Big D Washington both potentially back, along with a fully healthy Kearis Jackson, Rosemy-Jacksaint, Arian Smith, and Jermaine Burton (knocking on wood that none get hurt again in the meantime). With AD Mitchell starting to look like a big time receiver and Bowers as possibly the best hybrid TE we've ever had, the receiving corps should be trending significantly up by mid-October.

On defense, hopefully Tykee Smith is back by Auburn...with Ringo and Lassiter getting many more needed reps by then, too.

P.S. - The nearly forgotten Arik Gilbert...do we even see him this season?

Doubt it. If he plays, everyone else should just fricking quit. It would be an unstoppable machine.

Statistically speaking, about 3% of the population.

Nope, I don't think that guy ever plays a down at Georgia.

So... is he on scholarship? Going to classes at all? I'm not especially hopeful, just curious to know what he's doing.

George Pickens running routes in a black non contact jersey. He won't be back for Auburn but he may be ready mid to late November and help contribute in the post season.
quote:

Georgia defensive back Tykee Smith looked 100 percent in drills, and receiver George Pickens was running routes in a black (non-contact) jersey with a light knee brace on.

Pickens appeared to be near full-speed running routes during the warm-up drills, but his cuts did not appear as sharp as they could be.

Tykee Smith is a bigger need than Pickens, in my opinion. I mean, Pickens would be huge, but right at this moment give me Smith. Put him on the field with Ringo, Cine, Chris Smith and Brini and look out. We would be very tough in the secondary.

I haven't heard much from Chris Smith last couple of games, but when you play in the secondary that can be good news.

You mean from his perspective or Georgia's?

If he wants to go pro next year it would probably be advantageous to show the NFL that he has regained his speed and mobility and is not tentative.....IF he is recovered. If he is not 100% he should consider not playing but coming back next year.

So, I am curious when you say he shouldn't play. What do you mean exactly?

By what logic?

Do you have all the same information that he does?

Short version. He wants to get drafted and he wants to get drafted highly. His current film likely doesn't support a draft position higher than late 2nd/early 3rd and even then, that's probably a stretch. He's not a combine warrior, so while he can shave some time off his 40 between now and then, the best thing he can do is show off in what is clearly an explosive offense.

This is of course all carrying the caveat of his health is good and that we carefully monitor, but if he feels good and the medical staff feels good about him playing, I think it's silly to hold a contrary opinion with less information available. He tore the ACL on 3/23 I believe. We're already right at the 6 month mark and the belief is that he wouldn't be on the field prior to UF (if by then). So then you're 7+ months.

Bold statement there and I have to disagree.Pickens opens up a completely different dimension to our offense.Heck, even Bama was afraid to man up with em.He occupies at least one and half defenders when he takes the field and clears out a good portion of field on his deep routes. He's a game changer and you need those types to compete for a natty.

Because Auburn is a school full of bitches. Evidence

After getting back to back home games from us due to expansion, they now have used that to complain that life is unfair to them because their late season schedule finishes with UGA and Bama away every other year (despite having a home cupcake in between). It was a bullshite argument but in true McGarity fashion, he bent over and took it... At least that's the way it seems from the surface... he tried to argue that if we saw the alternative we'd have hated it but never shared specifics which leaves me skeptical.

…. but if he feels good

Dr. Xerogeanes (Dr. X) of Emory is the leading knee doctor in the state. He does more knee repair surgery than anyone. He said there’s undeniable evidence of increased re-injury if you try to come back prior to nine months. Part of healing is pure biology. It doesn’t matter haw hard someone rehabs, it takes time for the new ligament to grow into place.

Pickens’ opinion of how he feels should have little effect on when he returns if it’s still before nine months. Coming back early is a big risk. If he tears his ACL again he’ll miss another full year. See Dominic Blaylock as a prime example. He tore his first ACL in December of ‘19. He tore it again in August of ‘20. He’s still not back.

Yeah, I get that, and I have to admit I had to stop and consider everything before I said it. It would be close, no doubt.

The tie breaker for me is Tykee Smith is an excellent talent on his own, and i think we are thinner right now at DB than we are at WR.

Burton is getting back to where he was. Kearis Jackson is getting there. Adonai Mitchell is coming along REAL strongly. Justin Robinson is even getting some looks.
(I was skeptical about his ever developing which seems to be contrary to what many on here felt) Then Blaylock looks as if he is getting close. Landers has even looked serviceable. I realize Pickens is much better, but we just have a lot of depth at WR right now. When you add Bowers to the mix we have a ton of options at WR but the secondary is still a bit short.

It's just a personal preference, and I understand that some will disagree with my opinion, and that is okay, too.

When people have tried to make that argument to me, I usually respond by saying, "Then tell me what the alternative would have been and let me decide." They never do, for some reason.
