There was a time when we were competing for NCs in tennis and gymnastics every year and occasionally we’d throw in a good basketball and/or baseball season. Golf’s still steady and obviously our football program is a national powerhouse, but why the decline in other sports overall? AD?

Softball hosting a regional. Women’s tennis finished 3rd nationally and elimanted in quarterfinals. Men’s tennis made the elite 8. Men’s swimming finished 4th nationally and Women 8th. Baseball holding tough in a rebuilding year after being ranked 2nd last year. UGA gymnastics has fallen, but still a top 10 program. Golf has some of the top talent in the country and as a team, top 10/15

A complete and total lack of giving a shite about anything besides football. And if mcgarity weren't absolutely forced by anyone and everyone around him to hire kirby who knows where we'd be now, mcgarity wanted mullen through most of the process.

dude softball was trash this year. The only thing most people know about softball this year was they beat OU once (got boat raced by them a few hours later). They have completely tanked since that one season sevearl years back where they made a good WCWS run

No MAJOR ocmplaints about any of these, we've generally always performed well in the country club sports. I will say that I'm not super informed on the topic so could be majorly wront here but I thought I had read a while back that Diaz, despite all the incredible success he's brought, was a little miffed at our lcak of willingness to put any money back into the program while other schools did. I could be misremembering that though.

Lol. It's year 8, why are we rebuilding in year 8? How are we "holding tough" by likely not even making the postseason? It's stricklin's job to build a roster to compete yearly, not just put all your eggs in the Year 7 basket.

fallen is a massive understatement. The program has largely been pitiful since yoculan left. The most dominant and successful program in teh history of gymnastics when she left to what we are now, it's pathetic. What's even worse is seeing bama/florida/lsu all having big success during this same down period.

Top talent in the country and only a top 15 team? Wiuth the guys we've put in the pros why are we not winning at a higher clip?

I'd say it's more to do with caring about how big our rainy day fun is that athletics. Mcgarity almost seemed to get off on announcing our profit margin and reserve fund balance while attempting to spend as little money as possible.

Alabam over the last 15 years is literally a textbook case of "spend money to make money", it's astounding that we don't see it. Take a hit in the very near short term and get the best in all facets. The best coach money can buy. The best facilities money can buy. The best marketing and exposure money can buy. Sure it'll cost ya, but the return you'll get when the winning comes will come back to you 10 fold. And I don't just mean titles, look at their admissions and studnet makeup. Teh kids getting accepted and attending alabama in 2005 compared to now is almost night and day. And yes, it is an absolute fact that a good many of those kids are only there because of hte football.

Forget about Bama, what about a school like Arkansas? They're killing it in multiple sports.I get their Cross Country & Basketball success (the seem to put a huge emphasis on CC and have tradition, facilities, etc with basketball)
But will win SEC titles Soccer,T&F,Softball and probably baseball and also had a very successful basketball season.

They'll win 7 titles to 2 for UGA and I'm taking out their CC titles (don't really GAS)

No excuse for those numbers and let's hope our new AD invests heavily in all sports outside of CFB.Should we not be at a huge advantage financially because of the reserve fund, coming off the covid year?

Amen.

Stricklin's teams are the most uninspired, undisciplined teams Ive seen in a long time. We have fully depended on pitching and hoping the bats will hit enough since Scott got here. That got us ousted in two straight home regionals by inferior ACC talent when we were a national seed.

What did we do? Gave this clown an extension. We are being boat raced in coaching, facilites, and recruiting by almost everyone in the SEC.

8 SEC teams have been to Omaha since Stricklin has been at Georgia(Ole Miss, Auburn, A&M, Florida(4), Vanderbilt(3), Arkansas(3), LSU(2), Miss State(2)).

I agree with what WG was saying about Alabama and I think it extends over to students and career development. They seem to invest more in overall winning in all their sports and as other posters said I think a lot of that has to do with McGarity. McGarity was a numbers guy; bottom line concerned. Also on student development; we had a program a few years ago with about 20 Alabama interns for an MIS program. They worked on a live project for one semester. At the end all the students came and did a presentation. We offered every single one of them a job. Talking to all the students they all had multiple offers from Fortune 500 companies. Had another co-worker's son who went to Bama.
