Offense:

Swift was back in a red full-contact jersey.

he quarterbacks worked with the wide receivers on short-yardage routes at one end of the field. Redshirt sophomore wideout Matt Landers got some first team reps and made a nice catch on a curl route from quarterback Jake Fromm.

Offensive line coach Sam Pittman split the O-line in half and drilled three-on-three blocking schemes during the first few minutes of the open period before joining the defensive line on the field outside.

Defense:

Kirby worked closely with the corners during the first few minutes of the open period. Eric Stokes led the group through zone coverage and interception drills. Divaad Wilson got a rep with the top of the rotation at one point.

The inside linebackers drilled pass coverage as well, but Nakobe Dean was absent. Smart said Wednesday that Dean was “dinged up”, but he expects him to fully healthy for the start of the season.

At the very end of the open period, the offense and defense combined for a 7-on-7 drill with senior defensive back Tyrique McGhee getting a rep with the first team.

Also, Salyer spent the early part of practice with a trainer before joining the team later in the workout. He's expected to be back at full speed at some point in the near future.

I thought the Swift non-contact black jersey thing was a ploy by smart just to rouse the media. I think he had some illness/otherwise non-significant injury last week but I think that was all but cleared.

DRob drops one pass and you question if he’s overrated?

He seemed to be overrated last season. But hopefully he will get better as the years progress.

I don’t think he’s overrated. Possibly lazy or didn’t buy into the system. We didn’t see enough of him to know. But that’s jmo.

I hope Rochester and Marshall will be ready to go for Vandy.

DM sounds prime to have a breakout season. He's an impact guy when he can stay healthy.

I wouldn't rush Rochester back from injury. He's the primary guy behind Davis and they are scary thin if one of them goes down. Barnett or Carter should be fine vs. Vandy.

Has anyone heard any mention of the young interior DL from Tennessee. I guess they seem headed for a redshirt.

Swift was a concussion.

Dean was a sprained ankle.

Robertson had a drop, let's relax. He's running as the #1 slot WR over Jackson and Blaylock for a reason.

Regarding the freshmen DLs from Tenner, would anticipate a redshirt season from all of them, barring injuries. Ahead of them we've got 5 senior DLs along with Juniors Wyatt, J. Young, and Herring and Sophs Davis and Walthour. Kirby has said Walker is probably the only freshman DL that has a chance to help us this year...at least so far.

I don't think he's overrated at all. He just needs to learn how to play the position to Hank's and Kirby's liking namely: blocking.

A few different places at this point. Also worth noting that he was in concussion protocol, to my knowledge there was no official confirmation whether he actually was diagnosed with a concussion or if it was just precautionary...

Seems like we're being super careful with him this year so as not to needlessly endanger his draft status... Swift getting injured would really screw with our RB recruiting..

When Grantham only had 9 DL's (a full 3-deep in a 3-4) he was heavily criticized by this very board for being thin at DL.

Now Kirby has 11 in multiples and alot of 4 down and he's getting the same criticism.

I think it's fair to say if you work mostly with 4 down linemen and are only 2-deep with change, it's fair to call that thin.

You are only a few injuries away from being fricked.
