Great win but Mike White needs to tell RT to miss that free throw next time

Since LSU had a timeout, I didn’t hate him making it. If they had no TO, it was an obvious situation to try and miss.

Not sure why the TO would make a difference…it’s not the NBA where they get it at the top of the key enxtended….
Also, missing runs some time off the clock (was 2.3s left) and also could end the game before someone get possession to call that TO. Most importantly, even with the TO, guy passing it in would have to be stationary. Since he made it, guy could run along the baseline like he did.

This team is pretty good but inconsistency will eventually catchup with them. Play like they did against Kentucky and then shite a brick tonight. Not receipt for long term success.

Bro, they are winning SEC games which has been something they were incapable of doing - Even if we go even in conference it's a HUGE improvement over the last regime. Mike White is recruiting pretty well and is starting to move the program into the right direction. Is Georgia ever going to be a basketball powerhouse - probably not - but no reason they can't be a perennial tourney team with our schools resources and access to Atlanta.

I can't remember how many fouls we had, but in a situation where there's a loose ball like that maybe a guy instintively grabs for the rebound and fouls and now they're at the line with 2 free throws to win. You can make damn solid arguments in either direction but ultimatley I don't hate going up 2. In that case you're making them go the entire length of the court and make a 3 in 2 seconds...not very easy to do.

I can't post in the game threads as much with having to feed an infant these days but definitley still watched, what a weird game. It almost felt like after the 2013 Tennesse footabll game where both teams felt like dogshit afterwards even though we actually won. Sloppy, sloppy game with very, very little postiives to take from it. BUT, of course...all that matters come March is the W. This was maybe the worst game we've played under white, but to still come out on top against an SEC team is just awesome. We're already 2 wins away from matching last yera's conference win total and it's not even February.

If their player would have caught the ball inside the arc and made a jumper, we still have a chance in OT. I get what you’re saying about them not being able to run the baseline. I don’t think there would be a whole lot of time to run off the clock though on the miss. Maybe .2 seconds?

I do think their player got away with a push off but thank goodness he missed it.

Was curious on our pace compared to thsi same time last year.

After 6 SEC games this year:
4-2
2-1 at home // 2-1 away

After 6 SEC games last year:
3-3
2-1 at home // 1-2 away

Not a ton of difference really, but we sure look and feel better this year.

Probabably has a lot to do with feeling like we could realistically be 5-1 in conference this season and feeling like 3-3 was absolute luck last season.

I think we go as far as Demary takes us. He’s clearly the best PG we’ve had since Wright. I love our defensive intensity this year. It actually affects teams offense as opposed to killing us like years past. If we can get some consistency from 3, I think we have a realistic shot at 8-10 wins in conference this year. That will definitely put us in the conversation or at worst case, host NIT games.

If we don't then I'll officially be disappointed in this season. I konw that we are improved but unfotuantely so are a lot of other SEC teams. With that said though, there's really only 1 game left on the schedule (@AU) that we can go ahead and pencil in as a sure loss. We'll have a puncher's chance in every single other game we play.

Also, if we end up with 10 conference wins as you said, I would think we'd be in REALLY good shape for the real tourney and not just the NIT. Here are the last 4 years of the NIT and the SEC teams that were among the last selected to play in it (these are records at end of regular season/ no SECT included):

2023
Florida: 16-15 (9-9)

2022
Vanderbilt: 15-15 (7-11)
MSU: 17-14 (8-10)

2021
MSU: 14-13 (8-10)

2019
Alabama: 17-14 (8-10)

If we end up with 20 wins and 10 in conference I'd imagin we're solidly on teh bubble if not more likely in than not. HOpefully, anyway.

If we have 10 wins, we get a better draw in the tournament too which gives us a shot at some wins there.

The NET rankings do not like us. It's not the end all be all but it is a huge part of the tournament process.

I think 10-8 is probably a 50/50 chance.

Tomorrow is a huge game and the kinds we really need to win. We need to have a winning record against the middle teams in the SEC. Upcoming games against UF, SC, MSST, Ole Miss, and A&M will determine our fate

Even though NET/KenPom hate us this year, they hated us even more last year. I believe we were around 100 at this point last year.

We were lucky last year. Terry & Kario were really inefficient shooters that got hot at the right time which let us win some early games we had no business winning.

On Wednesday we beat LSU with Jabri playing terrible. That’s a good sign. We have 3 ball handlers I’m confident in. That was also a glaring weakness in last years team.

To be honest, the only guy I miss from last year is Bridges. We need more production from our big guys and could use his baby hook.

Demary & Thomasson are so huge to this team. I can’t remember the last time we had a guard who was as efficient and defensively sound as them. Silas is shooting 53% in conference play & Noah has one of the lowest turnover rates in the SEC.

But overall I’d be shocked if this team isn’t much better than last year. I think we finished around 150 in KenPom/NET last year, I really don’t think there’s anyway we end up there this year.

Our remaining games are

@ Florida

Alabama

South Carolina

@ Mississippi State

@ Arkansas

Florida

@ Vanderbilt

Auburn

@ LSU

Texas A&M

Ole Miss

@ Auburn

I think 7-8 more wins is certainly doable, more if we can knock off Auburn at home and Florida tomorrow. 21-23 regular season wins isn’t too crazy. If we get say 22 wins plus a win against Auburn I could certainly see us making the dance. Do better and we’re a 10 seed at worse, don’t do so hot and we’re riding the bubble assuming we don’t collapse

This is one that I have down as a middle 50/50 and think we can lose this one and be just fine. We get them again at home in a couple weeks. Like I’ve said throughout the season, we need to take care of business vs the bottom 4, split the middle and grab one vs a top 4 team and then win 1 in the SECT. I think we match up well here and can certainly win, but tough on the road.
Prediction: UF 82-74

Hope we can D up, make some shots and hit FTs and pull out the win

Go Dawgs!!!

I feel like we NEED this win to really convince voters etc we can compete. Obviously a loss here (many think we will lose) doesn’t kill our postseason but a win would boost our chances DRAMATICALLY. GO DAWGS!

Obviously beating a team on the road with a higher NeT helps but we get this same team and likely same NET again at home in a couple weeks.

Needed some of those first couple to drop. Right there.
