I’ve heard two players from our QB room, a few OL, and possibly one other could enter after this season. Anyone thoughts on who?

Would you hang around if you were Mathis?

That's been posted here before. Beck and Mathis are the two quarterbacks. I don't know about the linemen.

I'd stay and move to receiver if I were Mathis. He can play the position at 6'6. If JT comes back he should make the move.

We have recruited incredibly well at OL so that would not surprise me. This incoming OL class is looking very strong as well. There are quite a few guys on our roster with no path to getting playing time.
Beck and Mathis are gone. Kirby has made it fairly evident they don't fit into our plans.
Hopefully, we can avoid big-name transfers. Unfortunately, those have been fairly common recently.

I read that Beck didnt like being 2nd string behind Mathis. Thought it was the wrong call by the coaching staff.
Still... if I were in the Beck camp, I would compete in spring. If at that point I dont agree with coaches on my spot in the pecking order, then i would consider moving on. Beck could be the first off the bench next year. He could be the man in 2 years. That isnt anything to just walk away from. He cant honestly think as a sophomore that he can walk in somewhere and start at a decent d1 program.

He's shell-shocked. He can't play receiver. He's done with football.

I read that he was pissed off he wasn't starting the Arkansas game. He's probably also pissed off that Kirby tried recruiting over him, brought in 2 transfers, and grabbed BVG.

I hadnt seen that. This is UGA. We recruited eason, fromm, and fields.
I cant imagine that he is shocked that we are bringing in talent despite him already being in the fold.

In regards to the OL, I haven't seen us rotate nearly as much as we have the previous 4 years. I hope that doesn't cost us some high quality kids that are in the freshman and sophomore classes. I could be wrong on the rotations though.

From what I saw, he thought that he was guaranteed a starting spot based on what he was told when he was recruited. Kirby probably told him that Jake was leaving and the QB position will be wide open this year. But he interpreted it as him being handed the position.
At the end of the day, these are just rumors, but from what I've seen he has a certain degree of entitlement.

Fromm didn't decide to go until Coley was gone. 3 OCs in 3 years is tough mentally (especially when the 2nd OC was a failure. He'd have to have trust that the next would be a y1 upgrade).
Beck had been recruited heavily for years. I wont speak as to the "hopes" for Beck. But I highly doubt anything promised by Smart in December is the reason he early enrolled at UGA.

Elite athletes always think they are better than they really are, but I do love the exceptions, the players that are better than they think they are.
Competition is what it is and unrecruiting these kids may be harder than recruiting them.
Beck is in no way ready for the sec.

It's not as easy as it looks. I read an article once that said the two hardest things to do in sports is hit a baseball and complete a pass. As an old (old in every meaning of the word) I can somewhat agree with this.
Most QBs have their heart set on being a QB, and with his being a rated 4* QB out of HS, he probably feels he can excel there with some time and development.

I think he has a chance, but he's not getting it here. I root for him, but he's dug a bit of a hole and he'll have to be better than he looks capable of to win this job.
He played receiver at a high level already. Higher rated guys have made the switch and done it well, and the fact that there are just more receiver spots on college and NFL rosters should factor in his decision.

All due respect (and I respect you a ton)... those are tropes with no meaning.
Hitting a baseball is no where near as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Pro's vs Joe's showed uncoordinated dufuses putting the ball in play against retired ball players.
The hardest thing to do in sports is cover corner. You can only defend 1 half of the receiver and he knows where he is going (and the CB doesnt). Pros vs Joes also played that out. Give the receiver 4.5 speed or better and just start laughing at the DB now.
Sorry about derailing the thread. But this is a belief that I have felt strongly about

I think your both right, the qb has to throw to the open side of the wr moments after getting everyone lined up and checked into the right play why large men try to kill him.

I didn't know that. Thanks!

Probably right. I got it from an article and was shocked by what it said. I knew I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a baseball bat, so that part made sense to me. The receiver part? I never considered it extremely difficult.
the hardest part for me was long passes. Trying to go fast it felt like the whole ground was moving all around me, and then I had to keep an eye on the DB, and the ball.
When I caught a long pass I always felt i was lucky!

You are NOT making me feel better with this statement! I guess I am an EXTREMELY uncoordinated doofus!
(Which is true, too)
