Yeah shucks it sure would suck to be in that position. Oh wait we havent been in that position in 20 years. Idc if we lost by 30 I'd love to make the sweet 16.
I'm not disagreeing. Just clarifying some confusion

I’d be surprised if we get a big name coach like Crean to come here now, coaches like that have big egos and don’t want to go where everybody knows they were the second choice. Probably gotta go with the “up and coming mid-major” route at this point.
I hope we find out what happened with Thad, because he told us he was coming here before he bailed. I’ll assume this is on McGarity until proven otherwise.

3.2 million a year is a big payday to walk away from

We’re interviewing Jonas today... not sure how it went. IDK if Crean is even a candidate anymore TBH...

its pretty obvious...he had to openly pursue employment to get the rest of his buyout from OSU. That plus, if he actually does want to coach again, jobs like UCONN, Pitt, and maybe Louisville are open. Burn bridges in the SEC to get your money and then pursue a job where the school takes the program seriously if you want to coach
we got played like a fiddle.

I mean I guess that is a possibility but there sure were a lot of signs indicating the interest was legit, from the fact that he told UGA he was accepting the job, his family spending two days in town, his brother sounded excited about the possibility of living close by in an interview, notable people associated with Ohio State reached out to endorse him. He could’ve told Ole Miss the same thing when he was there if he was just trying to make some headlines and keep getting that buyout money. Maybe this guy is a complete a-hole and organized/calculated enough to make all that happen and have McGarity fall for it (that part isn’t that far-fetched), but I think something else must have gone down.

I say we hire Jonas at this point.

Which is the complete opposite of everything anyone ever says about him. I’m obviously incredibly biased, but I really do think he wanted the job. I just don’t think he’s physically ready for it.

Well, if he takes another job in 6-12 months you'll have your answer.

UCONN is a terrible job now that they are in the AAC. Pitt isn’t great either. It’s an ACC job but it’s an also ran. Seems like the AD doesn’t take on field/court results seriously anymore. If they did, they wouldn’t have booted Stallings. That job was a complete overhaul. Probably the least talented team in P5 After Dixon left them in shambles. That guy couldn’t recruit to save his life.

He wants to coach again. At least that's what I gathered from some of his comments when he left Ohio State.
I wouldn't be surprised, or bothered if he took one next year. If he takes one in the next few weeks, I'll be a little bit more upset.

Same, although it depends on the job he takes. If Louisville doesn't get Chris Mack and ends up getting Matta then I'd understand him choosing to go there. Anywhere else and I'll be upset.

he wanted the money man. why go through that whole process knowing youre not healthy enough to accept the job?
Posted on 3/15/18 at 12:43 am to K9
Or his family convinced him he wasn't healthy enough.

Maybe he didn't feel great after traveling as much as he did the last few days, and thought it was a sign he wasn't ready to coach again. Obviously speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be shocked if that was the case.

Per Seth Emerson. Georgia and Tom Crean set to discuss coaching position.
Do you guys think he would be a good second option?

Yes. What other good options would we have short of taking an "up-and-comer"?

680 is saying Crean is UGA's new coach per Dickie V.

May as well hire Jonas and work on upgrading our facilities. He can’t be worse than Jirsa.
