hardship case based on racism
This is the biggest crock of shite ever. A black football player on a team that is probably 95% black with black staffers, coaches, etc. trying to claim racism? Because of comments made by a fan during a game?
If I was UGA I’d fight this tooth and nail.

Maybe not free agency for 4 years but I could see the ability to transfer after your freshman year without penalty. With that, if you find out you made a mistake in your 1st choice you could move on. You can have all the official visits you want but until you live it, you really don't know what you're getting into. After that, you're stuck till you graduate.

Yeah, sports are one of the only things that transcend racism. People just want to win.

I doubt a Fields transfer happens unless he is guaranteed immediate eligibility and guaranteed a starting role without competition.
Gonna be tough to find him a conference where the defense is guaranteed to leave the field every time he's on it, though.

But he didn't do it in a nice way, and feewings are important, even in football.

I did some digging — mostly because I am tired of my real cases — from my reading of all the rules, the NCAA requires the transferee school to apply for the waiver and there is no mechanism by which a student athlete could apply for a waiver.
With respect to how Mars is compensated, he may get paid an initial retainer by the family to work on a consultant basis and then get really paid by the school Fields transfers to.

Makes sense. No way a hot shot like this would be satisfied with what an average family could afford to pay him.
It figures...the Universities themselves spawned and maintain this creature. Brilliant.

Legal services could be considered on loan with the note due in 3 years....

They should file the waiver and not fight it. Let Fields move on if he wants. Then move forward. We have a fantastic signing class with more to come.
