So you think he'd actually step aside if Smart gives us a D worth capable of contending for titles again?

I"m not sure if "step aside" is accurate. That makes it seem like he's saying 'well I'm no longer needed here'. I do think Richt will stay as long as he wants..but seeing that we are capable on both O and D would probably expedite that process. More like a "ok, I've seen to it that UGA is in good enough hands, my work here is done now" rather than a "hmm, that guy's good, I think I"ll go ahead and leave now".

If we win a natty in the next 3 years I gotta think he'd step down.

@JFowlerCBS: One name I'm hearing that Georgia might reach out to for its DC job: #FSU's Jeremy Pruitt."

I also agree Richt won't be doing it for much longer. You can tell the wear and tear this is having on him. Dude's hair is whitening faster than our presidents.

Plus, Mrs. Vox said this morning that he and Kathryn just found out they're going to be grandparents. That goes a long way with Mr. Ice Cream Social.

If the rules dictate that you have to interview 3,might as well go big or go home.

If they would interview Smart, Pruitt and Narduzzi, I would be happy. Foster and Chaves added in the mix would make me ecstatic.

That's a good point. Although his son playing college football the same Saturdays he was coaching us didn't seem to make him leave.

How do these coach in waiting things even work? Is he guaranteed the job in x number of years or gets a fat buyout? Or is it just that he will be the next coach whenever? I just don't see him taking the deal unless he is pretty much guaranteed the job within 3 years.

It's all under the table now...a few years ago the NCAA ruled if you named an assistant HCIW that the same recruiting rules apply to the asst. that apply to the HC...

That's why there's no one out there officially a HCIW I think Muschamp & Franklin when he was at Maryland were the last 2 official ones...

Coach in waiting is kinda like when you trick a girl into sucking your cock under the conditions that you promise to tap her on the head when you are about to shoot a load...

They don't. The NCAA banned them. Now if we do it under the table.

Tween what you mean?

If Kirby does come UGA will lead the SEC East easily and likely top 5 D in the country

Talent is there, Kirby is easily the best DC in college in the country

UGA would consistently be a top 5 D nationally

Might be a little bit of a stretch. He has the most talent and nobody knows what is Saban's work and what is his own work.

I'm saying, if he takes the job, it's obviously to succeed Richt one day. You don't go from Alabama DC to UGA DC just for fun. If Kirby gets us a top 5 D and our offense stays up to par, we will contend for championships year in and year out. I don't know if I see Richt handing the program off when he gets the taste of winning again.

If Kirby wants CMR's job (eventually), then the best way to prove it is by proving that it wasn't Saban alone behind the curtain the whole time. If KS can do that at UGA, then he's welcome to interview, in my book.

Oh I agree. If he wants the Georgia job this is the move. But his name comes up in every vacancy these days...if he wants to be a HC somewhere sometime soon his best move is to stay.

Bottom line is nobody really knows what Smarts situation is at Bama...he could be miserable or he could be happy and all this speculation is just a joke.

We do know that he verbally committed to this same lateral move a few years ago and I'd argue the situation is much better now than it was then.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Alabama hired Lane Kiffen. Grantham is now the 3rd highest paid coordinator in the country working for Petrino/Louisville Part 2...........

Bizarre and weird shite like this usually happens in Threes. 3 is a magic number.

Maybe, Kirby Smart to UGA really is the next bizarro world event destined to happen.

Exciting Times!....
