Georgia is expected to hire back UNC’s Stacy Searels as UGA’s new offensive line coach. The 56-year old Georgia native was the Dawgs OL coach from 2007-2010. @Dawgshq first reported the move.

Not known as a big recruiter. Struggled to develop OL at Texas and Miami.

Nice job at UNC though.

Damn, not a great hire in terms of coaching. Awesome guy, average coach.

Running game yes. Pass pro, not so much. UNC gave up the most sacks in the ACC last season.

Frankly, this is the most underwhelming hire in the Kirby era. Might also end up being the worst.

I was trying to be positive lol. I’m curious how many of those sacks were on RPO.

Not a big fan of this move. Kirby has earned the right to make own calls but this one is puzzling. I remember when he was here last time and I was not pleased with the Offensive line.

He will have gold mine to work with. No way can he underachieve with all that talent. He just needs to be a better recruiter.

Not crazy about but I'll defer to Kirby.

No coach in UGA history has done a better job hiring assistants.

both. When he was here we didn't really have a lot of talent (compared to modern day, which is kind of not fair since our OL recruiting has never been better than kirby era) but they also stunk.

With that said, we are MILES better as a program now than we were back then. Maybe with unlimited resources and a team of hellacious recruiters it won't matter. But his previous stint was definitely underwhelming.

I guess it goes to the question of if a coach can evolve over 10+ years.

Coaches can definitely improve. Learn from mistakes.
But can they evolve?

This goes in the "one to watch" category

I remember when he was at Georgia before. Can't say that I remember much about him. Georgia, as a team, has much more talent now than when he was here.

He has 11 more years of experience now than when he was here before. A coach can always get better at his craft.

Seems like he played at Auburn during the Pat Dye era.

Full circle. Crazy, he was highly regarded and then he wasnt. But luke much of this staff, redemption is sweet side effect of kirbys relentlessness.

Any chance Bobo had a hand in this? He was OC those years Searels was OL coach before.

When he was at LSU in 2003, they won the title, though. Might just be a talent issue at other places. We rose to #2 in the nation in 2007 under his watch, but o-line wasn’t prioritized much the last 5 years CMR was here.
