I'll give them a C+. Swann is not the cover corner I was expecting. He's much better as a Star. He's outstanding blitzing and he is at his best with the freedom to freelance.

Secondary is a major project. I like Wiggins out there. I think he's going to be the best cover corner by years end. Hopefully one of the JUCO DBs can make a difference like Chris Mayes is right now sometime in the near future.

You are correct. Whatever it is CTG has these kids doing, it's too complicated. I can't recall watching a game since CTG took the reins where the players weren't out of position at least once and running around trying to figure out where they should be.

It's a scheme that is supposed to be hard to predict. It is; our players have no clue where they should be.

Also think there's some screwy shite with Grantham's scheme and calls. It's college and these guys don't get to practice a fourth of what NFL guys do...maybe we need a solid, aggressive, 4-3 scheme that doesn't require these guys to think so much? And I'm still recovering from that 3rd and 23. The place was rocking, you couldn't hear anything, that was the time to rush 5. Why did we have only 3 linemen in there and everybody dropping back? WTF?

Bright spots are meaningless to me at this point. This was our 4th game of the year. We've played 2 top-10 teams coming in to this game and had a bye week and a cupcake game to prepare for LSU and we couldn't get them off the field.

So we played 3 top 10 teams in our 1st 4 games with 9 new starters on defense & beat 2 of them & lost to the other on the road at night by 3 points & you are not impressed??

ok...

My Take:

Floyd is stepping up in a big way.

Jenkins had a killer game...sack, bunch of hurries...should have had a pick..great run stopping. And I dont care what anyone says...that hurtle over the Tackle on the last play of the game cause Mett to chunk it early...leading to the over throw.

Our secondary is just not very good. Tat one route down the middle of the field through 3 defenders made my eyes bleed...really bad.

I say its time for Wiggins to get his shot.(notice they had him in at the end of the game). frick it, lets get some guys in there to make a play on the ball.

Swann just isn't having a good year.

Ray Drew is really starting to come around. proud of him!

thats abt all I got.

I am not gonna put anything on Swann. I think a lot of his running around was more to get the young guys where they were supposed to be. He IS the veteran out there now, so he probably feels like he has to do more than just his own job right now.

Once the younger guys (who are obviously talented) start getting it together, I think you will see a return to form from #5

It's third and 23 an I'm nervous as hell they'll convert. And they do. Feels like the Willie days.

I'm not denying that we have a young and inexperienced defense that was asked to play against some quality teams.

However... an SEC team that puts up 40+ points week-in and week-out should not be squeaking by.

Believe it or not, I'm not blaming the players. They're doing their best and they are young and inexperienced, though they got a lot of on-the-job training in their first month.

I'm blaming the scheme and CTG. Our problems didn't start with this crop of players. We had a host of NFL talent last season and wasted it. Even our experienced players looked out of place from time to time last season.

Agreed... these young kids have survived Clemson, SCjr & LSU...they've played the best they'll face this year. By the SECCG this bunch should be pretty fricking good...

He´s looked atrocious, but in retrospect, I think this may be the reason.

That would be pretty funny if it wasn't so true.

Nobody knows what we're doing on D ....including our own players.

I think most of us would have wanted to stop the LSU run and make Mett beat us through the air. That's exactly what we did. Mett is going to be an NFL QB and a very good one. We beat one of the best today.
The defense was still solid and strong through the 4th quarter. Not gassed like the last few years. The young DBs were lost and confused a lot, but Cam Cameron called a great game (same as Bobo) and LSU had 3 future NFL recievers and a QB that could thread the needle with rocket passes.
The DBs weren't great, but give them a chance. If by the Florida game they aren't better, then bitch.
