looks like the low pressure system out of the gulf is pushing further North than originally thought. Looks like it will start snowing around 7am in North Metro area and then turn to freezing rain early afternoon. Guessing 2 inches of snow and then another inch of freezing rain which will be about .1 inches of ice on top of the snow

no need for a weatherman to tell me what I can simply find by watching the models

Just started snowing (11AM) in upstate SC. Not sure what the totals will be but it appears to be a lot of snow or not much of anything (dusting) according to locals. Predictions are all over the place. We’ll know soon enough.

We got at least 5 inches in Mableton just north of I-20. There was mixed sleet and snow until around 10am and it stopped. Looking at the radar it looks like this may clear out around 5pm. If so power should be ok.

My go to is the NOAA weather website. All sorts of maps, graphs and forecasts. But, as with we saw with Helene, the track of the storm is never 100% predictable and that is what makes the difference.

I will check that now and again, but personally I use pivotalweather for almost everything, except tropical storm season I use tropicaltidbits.

Not much accumulation ATM. It’s been steady but not thick. Definitely not gonna cause any road issues. Looks like we’ll be in the 1-2” crowd.

Still a few flurries in my area which will end this afternoon. So we ended up with about 15 inches or so my wife said.

In South Cobb. Pulled out of my driveway at 5pm just to get a feel for the roads. I pulled right back in. I have rear end drive. I realized there's no chance I'm going anywhere until at least noon tomorrow. These snow storms are fun for a few hours but after that I'm done with it. The problem with this system is the precipitation just kept on coming and it was mostly freezing rain or rain that froze on contact. Just praying I don't lose power. It's alll cozying up now with the space heater on unless the power goes. If that happens, I'm hoping the hotel down the street has power and vacancy.

Got three inches before the sleet started. We sled for two hours and he got to throw a few snowballs…didn’t get to build a snowman but he had a ball

I didn't realize they still had trailer parks in South Cobb.

One story I want to memorialize in this thread....

My kid made a snowball, then poured some apple juice on it, went to the door and knocked, mommy answered, he showed off how he found some yellow snow (after mommy telling him to watch out for yellow snow 5 times), then proceeds to eat the snow. She freaked out. It was hilarious.

I didn't even put him up to it. He came up with it on his own.

Proud dad moment.

Anyone know the road conditions in Athens around the University? UGA is playing Oklahoma and planned on attending.

Main roads are probably fine. Parking lots and residential roads might be a little icy.

Where you coming from?

You should be fine. Roads are definitely cleared up and will get better as the day goes along, as it’s partly sunny and above freezing.

I wouldn't do that. Stick to 85 and 441 you'll be fine.

The main roads are ok in West Atlanta. The sides roads have some snow and ice. I'm really thankful that there wasn't more ice which would have led to power outages. This city is ill equipped to handle big winter storms.
