Another sidewalk fan checking in.
I buy my Georgia Ts at Target instead of Walmart. Does that score me a few extra points?

In high school, a marine recruiter was handing out Semper Fi bumper stickers, so I took one and put it on my car so all the ex-marine cops would give me a pass if I was driving a little too fast. I had a Billy Graham one too.
I never got hassled, until i finally put a NIN sticker in between them...

I think the distinction is silly, really. There are a lot of more important things in life than squabbling over the No True Scotsman fallacy, but I'll give my input all the same.
I went to a jr. college before transferring to UGA, and it wasn't even the Athens campus. I was in the first year of the UGA @ Gwinnett satellite campus program. I didn't get to experience college life in Athens even though my diploma has the University of Georgia name on it, and that has made me feel like I've missed out or that I'm a second class UGA grad. I've had to put that behind me since it doesn't really matter, but I can understand the feeling to a degree.
To me, being a fan means loyalty to the program and to the university (from a fandom perspective if nothing else). Identifying yourself with the university as a supporter in good times, in bad, and in that weird spot in the middle where you are winning a lot of games but still want the head coach fired.
You don't have to be a UGA grad to be a true fan just like you don't have to have worked for the Falcon's organization to be a fan of them. If you support the team and/or university in good times and bad, you are just as much a fan as someone who graduated from the university. Possibly even more so, as many people attend and graduate and don't really care about the university once they are gone.
Wear your red and black. Say "go Dawgs" when you see someone else representing the power G. Cheer for good guys on game day, and don't feel inferior just because you have a different university on your diploma. Be thankful for your blessings and remember what's really important in life: faith, family, and loving one another.

This is what I don’t understand, especially if you lived on campus and participated in anything. I didn’t grow up an a&m fan, but at some point your personal experience should become more important than where your dad or bro went.

Saw it as well in Athens.Had a roommate from Pa who was a huge PSU fan.Saw em in at the '82 sugar bowl and he was pulling hard for em.Also knew guys from Louisiana that were big LSU fans.UGA was always their 2nd favorite team.

I was accepted into UGA in 1983 but was DONE with school at the time. I was also accepted at Tech but that dog wasn't EVER gonna hunt....I waited 2 years after high school and 2 years into an apprenticeship to start college....and was working full time so it was night classes or no classes for me.
I am a DAWG fan because my Dad was. I don't think I've missed a minute of a Dawg game, either on radio, tv or in person, since 1972. I had 4 season tickets for 14 years from 1993 - 2007 and have been in every SEC stadium watching the Dawgs except Mizzoo and Rexas AM. I've been to most of them multiple times. I've been to at least 15 bowl games...probably more than that but I've lost count. There is no telling how much money and time I've spent on UGA football over the years. I've been to alumni events in several cities outside the state and have hosted UGA watching parties in Germany. My life's clock is defined by moments in UGA football and I am as much a fan of UGA as any alumni. College football is bigger than the school and bigger than alumni bases. You ain't going to sale 90,000 tickets to alumni only.
I have attended all sorts of UGA football events....dinners, fund raisers, etc and I've never not felt welcome because I wasn't an alumni. We are family and that's what family does!

So who are the folks in the stands during the game talking about happenings back in Hahira and Duluth and Mayretter when it's 3rd and short late in the 4th quarter and we are needing a first down to hold on for a win? Those assholes ought not be allowed in the Dawg nation, sidewalk or alumni be damned!
